POTLUCK CELEBRATION ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1st!
We welcome all students to join us in the cafeteria after-school on Friday, February 1 for a potluck celebration with music, food, and fun! Everyone is encouraged to bring in food that celebrates their family's heritage and culture! We hope to see our largest student celebration yet!
Catholic Schools Week is a big week for elementary schools, who will all be holding open houses and registration campaigns. For us at SJHS, it is more of a time to recognize how much our Catholic identity, our Catholic tradition, weaves itself into the fabric of life here at St Joes.
While there are some 7,000 Catholic high schools in the United States, there are 95,000 Catholic high schools worldwide. We really are part of a worldwide network of Catholic schools, all sharing the same mission.
This year we want to raise our awareness of how international the Catholic church is. We’ve asked the international clubs, the multicultural club, our international students, the World Language Department, and Campus Ministry to weave together the global foundations of our community.
Next week, students and staff will see evidence of these efforts on SJTV, in our classrooms, and in the cafeteria. Our school wide Mass on Wednesday will have an international flair and our own Mr Schmidlin will enlighten us with a lecture on the global issues facing the church today.
The week will close with a potluck festival in the cafeteria to celebrate the Chinese New Year and African-American History Month.
The word Catholic means open to all truth. Next week we may well learn that the larger truth of the Church is bigger than we had imagined.
We go best, when we go together, all together. So we celebrate—Catholic schools—world-wide.

An education in the fullness of humanity should be the defining feature of all Catholic schools. ~ Pope Francis
