November 2022 Multifamily News from AHFA

Make the Most of Training & Resource Materials

Happy New Fiscal Year! We're now a month in to FY2023, and perhaps you have welcomed new staff recently or plan to soon. While working through your onboarding process, remember to explore and include the training and informational resources available to you from AHFANCSHA, and HUD.

AHFA offers a high-level overview of the affordable housing programs administered in Alabama by AHFA in the Multifamily Essentials Training Capsule. For those non-profit organizations interested in competing for the CHDO Set-Aside, the AHFA CHDO Training Capsule will be helpful. On our Data & Statistical Information page, you can find reference material and information about AHFA-funded projects in Alabama. Various application instructions and notes are updated and released before the opening of application cycles. AHFA also provides a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) which we update regularly. Please ask new staff to sign up to receive information from AHFA about releases of new and updated materials and training opportunities as they are made available.

If you are interested in learning more about what it takes submit a first-time application, please read Developer to Developer: Tips for Success about how others have approached the process. You can also contact us to schedule an appointment to learn more about the process.

Plan Now to Finish Strong

The holiday season is upon us. Like you, we at AHFA look forward to spending time with our families and enjoying the season's festivities.

However, the end of the calendar year also brings regulatory deadlines which must be met. To keep AHFA projects on track we are working now to make sure our tasks and responsibilities are taken care of to meet all IRS and other federal calendar deadlines without issue.

Please take time now to assess the status of your projects and submit necessary requests for Actual Cost Certifications and HOME, HTF, and Multifamily Bond closings before December 1, 2022. Doing so will allow AHFA staff the time required to process this documentation before the end of the year.

The AHFA offices will be closed on the following dates in observance of holidays:

  • Thanksgiving: Thursday and Friday, November 24 & 25
  • Christmas: Friday and Monday, December 23 & 26
