On December 11, 2025, MCEM hosted a workshop to review its new Emergency Alert and Warning Plan and Standard Operating Guidelines. Local and regional partners who are engaged in emergency alerting were invited to participate the workshop and provide feedback on the plan's effectiveness.
The workshop was a culmination of a year-long project to develop a functional annex to the County's Emergency Operations Plan specifically on its Emergency Alert and Warning capabilities, as well as standard operating guidelines and a field guide for County emergency management personnel who are authorized to send public alerts and emergency notifications over official communication systems, including cellular networks, radio and broadcast television.
Participants in this day-long workshop reviewed the plan and operational guidelines and then went through a progressive scenario where emergency notifications to the public would be needed. As participants navigated through the modules, agency representatives shared knowledge related to the topic with partners and areas for improvement were identified.
As part of this year-long project, MCEM also conducted a live test of its Wireless Emergency Alert capabilities on August 14, 2025, reaching over 900,000 recipients in the county. The County continues to grow its capabilities in emergency alerting and regularly educating the public about its opt-in community emergency notification system, PublicAlerts.
