Disaster Resource Center Online Training Videos

The videos, part of a larger regional effort to train staff and volunteers at Disaster Resource Centers, will be available for Multnomah County staff as an online training through Workday beginning Monday, July 8.

The Operations Division of MCEM is also working to place the videos online for community volunteers to access and obtain training to staff our DRCs. Look to our next newsletter for more information about this exciting development. These videos are just the beginning of online disaster preparedness, response, and recovery training that will be offered through Multnomah County. Providing more accessible training platforms will help us reach a broader spectrum of our community. Please feel free to contact Robert Quinn , Training and Exercise Specialist, with any questions.
County staff stopped by the Fair to find out about disaster response opportunities
Disaster Response Readiness Fair

Multnomah County's first annual Disaster Response Readiness Fair was held on June 25th. County employees were able to meet other County staff who work in emergencies in a variety of roles, ask questions, and receive help determining what supporting role they may be able to play in a disaster. The goal of this event was to identify County staff who are interested in getting more involved in supporting the County in an emergency.
June Accessible Communications Workshop

On June 7th multiple stakeholders from across the Portland Metro area gathered to discuss how to create an environment where people with limited English proficiency and agencies tasked with disseminating emergency information can work more closely to assure that the whole community is made aware of life and property threatening events.

Multnomah, Clackamas, Clark, and Washington Counties as well as Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Somali, and ASL language communities joined together for the first of several other workshops to discuss how people receive messages based on language group, historical wins and misses on dissemination, and how to work collaboratively to strengthen response in the future.
