July's recommended reading:
No Man is an Island
While in college at UT Martin, I was introduced to "No Man Is An Island" by Thomas Merton. It began as a college student reading group with my pastor at First UMC in Martin, Rev. Randy Cooper. Merton was a Catholic Monk at the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky. Merton writes with gentleness and compassion, in a way that the book should be read slowly, and not rushed. He writes honest reflections on his own struggles with faith, loneliness, and hope. Merton is a brilliant change of pace for us who seem to rush from thing to thing and place to place in this life. If you are looking for a quiet, slow, reflective read, please check it out!
