Ensuring Halloween is Accessible for everyBODY!

Founded in 2017 by the Padulo Family, Treat Accessibly is a grassroots movement focused on making trick-or-treating accessible and inclusive for everyBODY.

The movement came out of a realization that because the Padulo Family's house had stairs, it was not accessible for someone in their neighbourhood who used a wheelchair to trick-or-treat. The Padulo Family changed where their candy station was located and thought: wouldn't others also want to know how to make Halloween accessible and inclusive for all? An accessible Halloween for one child has now spread across Canada with over 100,000 homes supporting accessible trick-or-treating.

The Brighton Accessibility Advisory Committee is proud to offer FREE Accessible Trick-or-Treat signs for residents who are able to offer accessible trick-or-treating! Before Halloween, pick up your FREE sign at select grocery stores in Brighton, at the Brighton Public Library, or at the Codrington Trunk ‘N Treat event on October 25 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For tips and tricks on how to make your trick-or-treating space more inclusive and accessible, visit Treat Accessibly's website www.treataccessibly.com.

The team at the Municipality of Brighton is committed to working together to meet the needs of our residents, visitors and those who choose to invest in our area. We dedicate ourselves to providing superior services to customers.

October is bustling with activity across Brighton as businesses and residents celebrate the autumn season and ongoing progress in economic development. The Economic Development team continues to support local businesses, address new investment inquiries, and promote opportunities in our Industrial Business Park and vibrant downtown. Focused efforts on downtown revitalization are boosting storefront improvements and making the core even more inviting for both entrepreneurs and visitors.

The Municipality of Brighton boasts 18 Quinte Business Achievement Award nominees across several categories. The awards gala is October 24th at the RCAF Museum.

Applefest was once again a highlight for the community, drawing thousands to enjoy the Street Fair, classic car show, and live music - local artisans, food vendors, and hospitality partners reported a strong season. The Codrington Farmers’ Market runs until late October, and tourism will remain strong into the fall, with visitors flocking to Presqu’ile Park and Cricklewood Farm’s popular Corn Maze. Brighton continues to thrive by connecting local agriculture, downtown charm, and outdoor experiences in every season.

Yours in Economic Development,

Ben Hagerman

Manager of Economic Development and Communications

We are proud to recognize and congratulate the 18 Brighton businesses that were nominated for a Quinte Business Achievement Award (QBAA) this year!

October 5 to 11 is Fire Prevention Week and this year’s campaign theme is "Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.”. It highlights the importance of buying, charging, and recycling lithium-ion batteries safely.

Charge into Fire Safety with these reminders from the National Fire Protection Association and Brighton Fire and Rescue:

  • Research your products that use lithium-ion batteries before you buy. Purchase only listed products, and look for a safety certification mark such as UL, ETL, or CSA. This ensures it meets important safety standards.

  • When charging your device, ensure it is on a hard surface, and always use the cords that came with the product. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer.

  • Unplug the device or remove the battery when it’s fully charged. Don’t overcharge it.

  • Recycle your device or battery at a safe battery recycling location. Refrain from throwing lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins.

Who says Fire and Ice don’t mix?

Chief Thompson and Deputy Chief Hutchinson joined Parks & Recreation Manager Vicki Hallam and Supervisor Nick Marnika in September to unveil the newly wrapped Brighton Fire and Rescue-themed Zamboni at the King Edward Park Arena.

Featuring fire safety slogans, the Zamboni will not only keep the ice surface safe, but it also serves as a reminder to have working smoke alarms and to practice fire safety!

Glide into in the month of October!

Lace up your skates and join the community at the King Edward Park Arena for a full month of fun on ice! From themed public skate nights to family-friendly events, there is something for every skate enthusiast!
