Atlantic Coast Fibers Fire -
No Batteries of any Type should be Placed in Recycling Cart
|
On January 30, 2021, Atlantic Coast Fibers, a recycling materials facility plant in Passaic, NJ, was destroyed by a fire. The Fire Chief indicated that they believed(not confirmed) the fire started as a result of a lithium battery that was in a bale. NO BATTERIES of any type should be placed in the recycling bin!
Are lithium batteries recyclable? Yes, but not in curbside collection. All lithium batteries and rechargeable batteries can be recycled at our Recycling Depot located on Jane Way. Alkaline batteries(AA, AAA, C, D, and 9 Volt) may be disposed of with your normal trash.
|
|
Do Not Recycle Plastic Bags-
Do Not Bag Your Recyclables
|
Batteries and plastic bags continue to be major problems for recycling facilities. Are plastic bags recyclable? Yes, but not in curbside collection. Plastic bags hinder the recycling process at the sorting facilities. What does that mean for taxpayers? Taxpayers in all NJ municipalities, including the Township of Morris, currently bear the costs associated with improper placement of plastic bags in recycling containers resulting in increased costs for contaminated recycling.

Early Bird Swim Pool Registration-
Waiting on Updated NJDOH Guidelines
|
Typically, this time of year we would finalize membership fees and open early bird registration. However, based on our experience last year with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have put these processes on hold. We are waiting until we receive more information from the State (Governor’s Office & NJDOH) on permittable daily swim pool capacities, along with additional requirements for swim pool operations. We anticipate the state will release updated guidance by late March and we will announce the opening of membership registration in April, 2021. Updates will be sent out thru Community Pass. We thank you for your patience as we prepare for the 2021 season.

Due to limited supply, NJ is limiting those who are eligible for a vaccine. Currently, healthcare workers, first responders, adults over 65 and those 16-64 with underlying health conditions are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. For a more detailed list of those eligible please click here.
We know that appointments are hard to come by, but please be sure you are registered on the NJ Vaccine Scheduling System. This can be found here

Heading out on a frozen pond, lake, or river to walk, skate, ski, snowshoe or fish is a risky venture. Ice is unpredictable and never 100 percent safe, especially now with temperatures rising.
