Letters of support needed for Crisfield Housing Authority Basketball and Tennis Court repair and mural project

The Crisfield Housing Authority, Somerset County Parks & Recreation, and Crisfield Arts & Entertainment District Project will work together to identify funding to rehabilitate and create murals at the Crisfield Housing Authority Basketball and Tennis Court. We are currently waiting on estimates to finalize the cost of this project. The mural part of this project will be led by Shelton Hawkins and Play in Color, who created the Idlewild court in Easton along with many others. See the Idlewild court here: wmdt.com/2019/06/easton-basketball-courts-transformed-into-colorful-masterpieces

Letters of support are needed from the community to make this project happen. These letters do not need to be formal. Letters with personal experience are most helpful. If you played on these courts when you were younger and would like to see this project, or support it for the community, please write to arts@crisfieldcityhall.com or to the CAED Project, Attn:Basketball mural, PO Box 107, Crisfield MD 21817.

Please see below for information on attending the July 28th, 5 pm Crisfield Arts & Entertainment District Planning meeting via Zoom for more information or to help with this project.

Seafood Worker Mural Installation

The Seafood Workers Mural will be installed the weekend of August 8th by artist Michael Rosato at 347 W Main Street in Crisfield. This mural is a project of the Greater Crisfield Action Coalition and was undertaken by project leads Darlene Taylor and Eric Banks, who both worked in the seafood industry in their youth.

Residents and visitors are invited to view the mural at their leisure, respecting social distancing.

This project was generously supported by grants from the Department of Housing and Community Development ($3,000), the Maryland State Arts Council ($7.065), the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore ($5,065), the Somerset Count Arts Council ($2,800) and the Crisfield Arts & Entertainment District Project ($2,000).

The Crisfield Arts and Entertainment District (CAED) Project, which strongly supports public art in Crisfield, assisted with grant writing and management for grants through the Maryland State Arts Council and Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore as well as providing funding for this project. The CAED Project looks forward to working with interested community organizations or artists on future projects.
