Greetings!
On First Friday of each month, JPR hosts a First Friday Art Conversation and invites any art related organization to dial in and talk about what is happening. Since March, 2020, my comments on the broadcast have been spotty at best. There were a few months where there was nothing at all to report because the museum was closed. Yesterday was different. I was able to talk about our new Betty LaDuke exhibition that opened on Tuesday, our returning concerts, our new film series, Second Friday Poetry coming back, and our ongoing live workshops. Even Geoffrey Riley, the broadcast host, was excited for us.
Be sure and check the website frequently because we are constantly updating programs and events as they get scheduled. We really look forward to seeing you.
Warm regards,
Hyla

If Walls Could Talk
If these Museum walls could talk, you would hear about the compassion, caring and generosity of one Lifetime Member, Gary Pondelick. In 1979, the City of Grants Pass donated the maintenance building in Riverside Park to house the Museum. Gary donated his building contractor skills to help renovate that building.
Later, when the Museum’s Board of Directors purchased the current building on G Street, Gary stepped up once again. This time it was a major renovation working with engineers to bring the historic building up to code, meet capacity requirements, and create the shaft for an elevator. The project required meeting earthquake standards, along with major foundation work, and included huge metal structural beams along the front of the building. He and the engineers far exceeded Board expectations, and everyone was amazed that the building had stood over the years because it seemed all that held it up were the bricks!
After the outside work was finished, Gary began on the interior, creating the exhibition spaces, bathrooms, and offices. And even after the entire renovation was completed, you could usually find Gary volunteering at the Museum’s annual Art in the Garden, Golf for Art, or the Black, White and Blues fundraiser, as well as many other Museum events.
There is a plaque on the wall right next to the elevator expressing the Board’s appreciation of all the time and energy Gary has contributed to the Museum. After living with Alzheimer’s disease for the last nine years, Gary passed away in February 2022. He will be greatly missed.

Friday was the last day that Kristen O'Neill was the museum's administrative assistant. Kristen is off on other adventures. We wish her well.
The museum's new Administrative Specialist is Alicia White. Alicia will be at the museum everyday. She has already hit the ground running!
We have also hired Summer Sheets who will be doing the financial and inventory work for Gallery One along with other needs for the museum.

One of our newer members, Stanley Smith, recently donated many cartons full of art related books that he purchased at the Getty Museum when he was working there. The books have been catalogued and we are waiting for a new bookshelf that Enoch Crumpton (one of our Gallery One artists) is building to house them. Eventually they will be integrated with all of our other library books but before that you will see a special "New Arrivals" bookcase. Did you know about our library? Anyone is welcome to explore the books and if you are a member you can check them out and take them home for a while. Speaking of the library - if you have a small meeting and need space for it - you can use the library if you are a member of the museum. You just need to schedule it in advance.

There are lots of different things a volunteer can do at the museum. One of the biggest needs we have right now is for greeters. These are people who act as a host when people visit the museum. The "shift" is four hours from 1pm - 5pm Tuesday through Saturday. Please contact us if you are interested by emailing [email protected]
Thanks!

Monthly donations are so amazing. They add up quickly. Just $10 a month means a donation to the museum of $120 for the year. That's fabulous. Please consider this option. The payments are safely charged to your credit card. We currently have people who donate anywhere from $5 per month to $42 per month. We appreciate any and all!
