Dear Hyla,

Today is the very last day of November. The sun is currently shining in my office window and the museum has been full of great Saturday visitors. Many are families of the artists who are in the membership exhibit. It is very joyful to see people celebrating with each other.

We will be closing the museum at 5pm on December 19. We will re-open next year (gasp - I can't believe I'm saying that) on January 21. The opening exhibit is a collaboration with the Oregon Caves and many schools throughout the United States. We work with an organization called IFC Projects to make this happen. The theme is all about creatures who only live in caves. We hope to see you here!

Soon, many of our events will be on our website so you can plan your year. Workshops will begin in late January. The variety of what is to come will make you very happy.

Susan Burnes has been a part of the museum for over 19 years. She was on the board of directors and the president for a number of terms. She was head of the Exhibition Department and her incredible eye for art was one of the reasons the exhibits always looked so amazing. Her philosophy is that an exhibit is a piece of art.

She was always available to help mount an exhibit and she curated many over the years.

She will be spending lots more time creating her own art, which is stunning. We will miss her!

November 22 through December 19

This year 90 artists submitted one piece of their art for the exhibit. We have everything from artists 8 years of age up to 90 years of age. The exhibit is one of the best we have ever had the pleasure of sharing. Be sure and visit.

Caves are home to fabulous creatures

A Southern Oregon school collaboration with the Oregon Caves.

Greg Navratil

Natural landscapes with brilliant color. These paintings are created using paint applicators instead of brushes. The result is almost a form of pointillism.

April 1 through May 23

Watercolor Society of Oregon

Over 80 Oregon watercolor artists will have their art on display during this exhibit.

The artists are from all over Oregon.

May 28 through July 25

The Global Language of Headgear

Over 43 countries are represented with 85 individual headgear. Cultural Identity, Rites of Passage & Spirituality are exhibited.

Rogue Valley Biennial

A celebration of art and architecture, the Biennial explores themes of politics, contemporary cultural, and social issues through all forms of visual art.

Fire and Smoke

An installation of fabric “trees” depicting what happens in a forest following a fire.

January 26: Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers The film includes exclusive access to the UK’s biggest Van Gogh exhibition in a century from the National Gallery, London.

April 20: Dawn of Impressionism: Paris, 1874 Filmed from another incredible exhibition based at the Musee D’Orsay. This film is revelatory, bringing amazing stories from the birth of the most popular art movement in history.

July 27: John Singer Sargent: Fashion and Swagger   Filmed at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Tate Britain, London, the exhibition reveals Sargent’s power to express distinctive personalities, power dynamics and gender identities during this fascinating period of cultural reinvention.

October 26: And, to celebrate Michelangelo’s 550^th Birthday year, a film featuring Michelangelo: Love & Death. Rediscover why Michelangelo is without a doubt one of the greatest artists of all time.

The second annual Dia de los Muertos exhibit was installed in the Community Gallery. It included many meaningful elements of the celebration.

The Rogue Valley Symphony has a season ticket holder event at the museum prior to each concert. Here we see Martin and Carla talking about the upcoming concert.

Many organizations use the museum as a venue for events. Here we see PEO having a Bunco Party which was a fundraiser.

We were very happy to receive a lovely donation from the group which will go towards our Fifth Grade Field Trips.

The reception for the artists membership exhibit also included a farewell and thank you for Susan Burnes and Mark Simonds.

Many people participated in making thank you cards for a long time of service to the museum in many capacities.

The membership artist reception was a very well attended event. It was for the artists who participated in the exhibit.

Most Mondays, people gather at the museum to sketch a live model. Doug Iverson is the leader of this activity. He sends an email out every Sunday to let you know what is happening the next day.
