Greetings!
Wow - the first day of the second month of the year 2020. I am pleased to say that I have moved all of our 2019 files into storage boxes and have labeled files for 2020. Only one month behind. Yahoo!
We have exciting news about our downstairs space. Closet Catalyst closed their doors yesterday. Julie (the owner) is going to spend more time with her wonderful girls. We enjoyed having her as a tenant.
You will notice that the space will be empty for a while - but you'll be happy to know that it has been rented. It is soon to be the Shoefly Shoe Store. Sydney Mitchell is the owner and she will open sometime in April. We'll give you updates as we get closer to the opening.
Visit the museum soon!

We are already off to a quick start of the New Year. Black, White, and Blues is almost here and it’s going to be one of the best parties ever. Make sure to get your tickets, you don’t want to miss out. The Live auction art is amazing. If you want a preview, stop by the Museum to pick out which pieces you will be bidding on. Lots of Gift Certificates for food and services are coming in for the silent auction, along with lots of goodies, there’s something for everybody. We’re very excited to have booked the Danielle Kelly Soul Project, a great dance band that plays all the great soul music from the 50s and 60s. Make sure to wear your dancing shoes.
Speaking of dancing, we are also starting our planning for the 2nd annual “Dancing with the Grants Pass Stars”. This event helped raise over $35,000 for 9 local non-profit charities last year. This year we are hoping to increase this amount to $50,0000. Not only is this a great fund raising event for these non-profits, it was so much fun for everyone that attended. Please plan on attending on May 16. If you would like to find out how you can help, we are having a meeting at the museum Tuesday, February 4th at 4:00. The more the better.
We are also planning for Art in the Garden. Board member,Kate Bortells is chairing this event and she is collecting some beautiful gardens. If you have a beautiful garden or know someone that does, please let Kate know. This year's tour is scheduled for June 13 and 14. I can’t wait. It’s one of my favorite events of the year.
The 5th grade field trips are booking up and we are very proud of this program and how it effects the kids in our community. 2nd Friday Poetry Sharing will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this spring. This is really fun way to spend your Friday evening. There’s also a full schedule of concert for music at the museum. The museum has turned into much more than a beautiful building that displays amazing art, it is a gathering place for lots of different people with a lot of different interests. Let us know what your ideas are for a gathering.
The Museum always needs volunteers and donations. If you can, please help us fund all these great programs.
Hope to see you at Black, White, and Blues

February Workshop Schedule

This is a fun exploratory class in printmaking using commercial gelatin printing plates. We will experiment with color, plant materials, stencils, masks and texturing materials to make complex papers that can be used as collage for mixed media projects or framed as art. We will also cover how to make your own stamps and stencils to use for printing.
If you own a commercial "Gelli Plate" please bring it to class. I will have small commercial plates and plates to share. Optional to bring some acrylic paint in colors you would like to work with and any of your favorite stencils and texture materials ex: bubble wrap, lace...
All other materials will be provided.

Help keep the museum free for all!
|
|
The museum does not receive government funding (other than grants from the Josephine County Cultural Coalition). So keeping the doors open depends on grants, donations, memberships, and rent from the street level businesses (Closet Catalyst and Gallery One). You can do one time donations and you can also do monthly donations. It's easy - and we appreciate you very much!
On additional side benefit - the foundations who offer grants are very pleased to see community involvement. Your donations show your support!
