The Transport Museum Association -
Our Next Move

The Transport Museum Association Board of Directors is actively establishing long and short range goals for the Museum of Transportation.  The Board determined the following four projects as the highest priorities:  completion of The William R. and Laura Rand Orthwein Education and Visitor Center; construction of an open-air pavilion providing coverage for the currently exposed historical artifacts on the lower four rail lines; design and completion of an artifact storage facility; and, completion of the trolley rail line platform with an exit/entrance at The Earl C. Lindburg Automobile Center.

More information coming soon.

As of January 1, 2017 the Museum of Transportation is a private Museum located in St. Louis County.  Our 501(c)3  organization, the Transport Museum Association works daily to ensure a bright future for our historical past.  Please donate on May 11 so that we can continue to restore historic artifacts for the next generations, provide educational programming for all ages, and enhance the Museum of Transportation buildings and grounds. We have much work to do...please help!

Artifact of the Month -

1930's Pevely's Milk Wagon

Currently on display in The William R. and Laura Rand Orthwein Education & Visitor Center as part of the 'Transportation Trails & Tails' Exhibit.

This zebra-drawn Pevely Milk Wagon delivered milk through the streets of St. Louis in the 1930's.   The zebras, Hans and Tanta, were captured in Southwest Africa and taken to the Hagenback Circus at Altona-Stellingen  in Germany for training.   They were brought to the Pevely Dairy Co. in St. Louis in July 1929, at which time they were three-years-old.   Hans and Tanta proved to be exceedingly gentle and well-trained.

The zebras delivered milk in St. Louis for years.  So, you could say, they really earned their stripes!

Here is a must see video of this zebra delivery wagon.

While we wanted to share this artifact with you, it is not a piece of the Museum collection. This wagon is on loan courtesy of Ann and Greg Rhomberg.

Each year the Transport Museum Association raffles two cars in an effort to raise funds for education programming.

Is this a car, a conversation piece, or both?
