Marvin S. Cone 38th Annual High School Juried Art Show Ends June 22

Discover the works of the community's best visual arts students! Stop by and see the pieces selected for purchase awards, where they become a part of the permanent collection at their respective high schools and superintendent's office.

Impacting over 1,500 students since 1987, this show recognizes the community’s best visual arts students from Martin County High School, South Fork High School, Jensen Beach High School, Clark Advanced Learning Center, and the Pine School.

Summer wouldn’t have the same sizzle without a patriotic concert by the Space Coast Symphony Wind Orchestra. This all-American, red, white, and blue concert will honor all those who have worn our nation’s uniform, and showcase our national heritage, as conductor Aaron Collins directs the wind orchestra with music by Morton Gould, Frank Ticheli, Lee Greenwood, Christopher Marshall, and marches from “The March King,” John Philip Sousa.

“We owe everything to the men and women who have worn our nation's uniform,” said Collins, artistic director and conductor of the orchestra. “These concerts are a powerful way to come together as a community and celebrate our great nation.”

The concert will highlight Frank Ticheli’s thrilling and bluesy Blue Shades. This high energy and jazzy tribute to the Big Band era is a pressure cooker of excitement. Rounding out the program is Christopher Marshall’s Méndez, inspired by the legendary Mexican trumpet virtuoso Rafael Méndez who presented hundreds of trumpet trio concerts across the United States with his two sons, Rafael Jr. and Robert.  Méndez seeks to evoke the atmosphere of those performances and the exciting spirit of Mexican folk music.

ZOTO RETURNS TO MCKEE BOTANICAL GARDEN

WITH A NEW STONE BALANCING EXHIBIT ‘BEYOND THE ORDINARY’

Master Balancer Adam Conard, known as ZOTO, introduced the ancient art of stone balancing to McKee Botanical Garden with his "Playing with Gravity" exhibit.

This summer, ZOTO returns with an all-new exhibit, "Beyond the Ordinary," on display from July 9 through September 8.

The ancient art of stone balancing is truly a “beyond the ordinary” art form, and ZOTO elevates this concept to new heights. Drawing inspiration from the garden's extraordinary founders, Arthur McKee and Waldo Sexton, ZOTO incorporates unique, never-before-balanced objects into his pieces, some of which have been touched by the founders themselves.

Complementing the "Beyond the Ordinary" exhibit, ZOTO has created paintings inspired by the exhibit's theme, which will be displayed in the historic Hall of Giants. ZOTO's paintings, which he describes as Classical Surrealism, blend classical painting techniques with contemporary surrealism to produce works of profound meaning.

For those interested in learning more about stone balancing, ZOTO will host a special event on Saturday, August 3, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Royal Palm Grove at McKee Botanical Garden.

The demonstration will cover techniques such as setting a base, selecting stones, visualizing balance points, and identifying equilibrium lines. Following the demonstration, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on session with smaller stones, where ZOTO will provide individual guidance.

Nature & Mystery:

The Art of Mally Khorasantchi

On view Saturday, June 15 - September 15

This Summer, the Polk Museum of Art invites you into the world of Mally Khorasantchi, who has established herself as an artist whose abstract visual language has been featured in more than a dozen solo shows in Florida, New York, and her native Germany.

Born in Post-Second World War Düsseldorf, Khorasantchi came of age — and became an artist — in a country deep in turmoil and historical reckoning, re-imagining itself and its place in the world following the horrors of its immediate past.

Now based in Florida for more than three decades, Khorasantchi tries in her colorful and complex compositions to reconcile the stoic nature of her German upbringing with a cheery dose of American optimism. Indeed, filled with earthly creatures and imbued with the contrasting themes of order versus chaos, Khorasantchi’s vibrant paintings examine the interrelationships between us and the co-inhabitants of the world around us.

Be transported to Los Angeles’ celebrated Sunset Strip of the last 1960s and 70s and immerse yourself in rock and roll nostalgia with the summer exhibition Rock ‘N’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip: Photographs by Robert Landau.

In those years, the Sunset Strip was the heart and soul of a vibrant music scene – home to record companies, record stores, and legendary nightclubs. Through the lens of his camera, photographer Robert Landau chronicled these pop masterpieces that only lasted a few weeks before being dismantled. White-washed, and pained over with newer images.

The VBMA exhibition comprises 50 photographs; four of which are presented on a monumental scale. Some of the musical artists represented on the billboards include: The Beatles, Donna Summer, The Eagles, John Lennon, Madonna, Queen, Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, and many more.
