Vision: Floyd County parents with children birth to 12 years will have the parenting and life skills they need to provide safe and nurturing homes for their children.

SCOTT THOMPSON CONCERT RAISES ALMOST $7000 FOR THE FRC

The Special Events Arena at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds was transformed into a fun, intimate setting on Saturday, May 8th, for An Evening with Scott Thompson - Songs I Wrote and Songs I Wish I Wrote, to benefit the Family Resource Center. Tickets were sold for 8x8 boxes for up to four people, food was available for pre-purchase and drinks were available at a cash bar. Opening acts Hunter Blalock and Grant Hadley with his band Rusted Soul quickly gained audience approval as they took turns entertaining us with their completely unique styles. Opener Hunter Blalock sang straight from his heart into the hearts of the crowd and Grant Hadley and his band Rusted Soul mesmerized the audience with his smooth vocals in a songwriter's round.

Then Scott Thompson took the stage and drew us all in with his infectious smile and beautiful voice, playing songs from his own playlist as well as many of his favorites from other artists.

Approximately 175 people attended the event, which promises to become an annual favorite. Save the date for June 4, 2022!

Tickets are available to our annual Night at the Movies. Typically held in February, this year’s event was moved to June 8^th to allow for a safer time together. Join us at the Movies at Berry Square for a variety of hors d’oeuvres created by your favorite local restaurants as well as libations and fun. Doors open at 6 pm and your choice of movies begins at 7:15 pm. Tickets are available at https://checkout.square.site/buy/KO3A6S33VIJ6MN5UU52GOLS4 . All proceeds benefit our Exchange Parent Aide program and provide in-home services to at-risk families.

EXCHANGE PARENT AIDE SERVICES

We’d like to introduce you to a young family who is graduating from our Exchange Parent Aide program. This family was led by two young parents and their infant was having difficulty gaining weight. This is often termed “failure to thrive” and can lead to hospitalization and even foster care if solutions aren’t found. Our Exchange Parent Aide services are driven by the needs of the family and children and given the issue, we were able to make almost daily visits for several hours each day over the course of a week. Through those visits, we were able to confirm that negligence was not a factor in the failure to thrive. The pediatrician was able to take our information and work with the parents on a solution. The baby started gaining weight and hitting milestones!

We continued to visit with the family weekly as they worked on learning more about how to help their baby grow and thrive. We provided not only parenting education but also helped parents grow in their money management and employability skills and also strengthened their communication with each other. As we get ready to close our case, we are pleased to report that the baby has not only hit goal weight but is now developmentally on target and thriving. This will lead to increased school success down the road. For now, Mom is staying home to provide care and Dad recently took a new job with a pay raise plus benefits.

What a joy to help a young family strengthen their foundation so that this young child thrives in the years to come!
