Faculty Spotlight: Simon Morrison Wins ASEEES Prize | We are thrilled to announce that Professor Simon Morrison has won the Reginald Zelnik Book Prize in History from the Association for Slavic, East European, & Eurasian Studies (ASEEES). This prestigious award recognizes an outstanding monograph in the field of history on Russia, Eastern Europe, or Eurasia. Professor Morrison received the prize for his acclaimed book, Tchaikovsky’s Empire: A New Life of Russia’s Greatest Composer (Yale University Press), a landmark study that brings fresh insights into the life, music, and legacy of one of Russia’s most celebrated composers. | Princeton Alumni Shine at Zodiac Festival in France | This past July, three Princeton alumni—Kimie Shen ’24, Katherine Forbes ’23, and Kevin Zhang ’19, former students of Performance Faculty Francine Kay—participated in the Zodiac Festival in the south of France. They performed solo and chamber music in Valdeblore in the French Alps and in Nice on the Riviera, while also working with an international faculty of musicians. The festival offered a joyful reunion and a chance to share music across different Princeton generations. | Performance Faculty Spotlight: Sumi Tonooka’s Latest Album | Sumi Tonooka, Performance Faculty (jazz piano), has just released her new album Under the Surface, a seven-part suite inspired by the interconnectedness of tree root systems. Performed with the Alchemy Sound Project and featuring drummer Johnathan Blake, the album has already earned critical acclaim, including a four-star review in DownBeat. | |
