MUSIC MONDAYS

Dear friend

I am very excited to share with you that the Piano Slam 14 poetry competition  has been adjudicated. I have personally read over a hundred of the submissions, and would have loved to have seen most of them performed. They were beautiful, touching, thought provoking, funny, wistful…. the range of the human expression.  Alas, limits are necessary, and18 are finalists.
This past week they met their coaches; on Saturday they met Katie Christie, the director, and choreographer Gentry George who is creating a beautiful visual landscape for My Music, My Humanness, My Music – the stage show on April 21 at the Arsht Center.   Below a clip of the first movement workshops to begin to get in touch with their greatest instrument – their bodies.

This inspired us to feature one of the music of one of the most famous ballets of all time, Daphnis and Chloe by Maurice Ravel. If you close your eyes, you can hear a river of diamonds floating through the air.

Have a brilliant week.

Warmly,

THE LAND

That was a spring of storms. They prowled the night;
Low level lightning flickered in the east
Continuous. The white pear-blossom gleamed
Motionless in the flashes; birds were still;
Darkness and silence knotted to suspense,
Riven by the premonitory glint
Of skulking storm, a giant that whirled a sword
Over the low horizon, and with tread
Earth-shaking ever threatened his approach,
But to delay his terror kept afar,
And held earth stayed in waiting like a beast
Bowed to receive a blow. But when he strode
Down from his throne of hills upon the plain,
And broke his anger to a thousand shards
Over the prostrate fields, then leapt the earth
Proud to accept his challenge; drank his rain;
Under his sudden wind tossed wild her trees;
Opened her secret bosom to his shafts;
The great drops spattered; then above the house
Crashed thunder, and the little wainscot shook
And the green garden in the lightning lay.

And so it starts....
The first movement workshop for the PIANO SLAM 2022 Finalists with
choreographer Gentry George.
A long way to go in a short time. Those young people will surprise you when you see them on stage on
April 21 at 7:30pm at the Arsht Center!

Join me at the show to celebrate the young poets and then meet the professional artists at the after party at Brava!
