Dear friend
July 14 is Bastille day which celebrates and commemorates the French fight for Independence and government transformation that was inspired in part by America’s Declaration of Independence on July 4th and our own Revolutionary War.
We thought it would be fitting this Monday to select music by two of France’s great composers, Camille Saint Saens and Olivier Messiaen. Their styles and musical forms are as different as Normandy is from the Riviera or a glass of Burgogne would be from an Alsacian wine. Both are wonderful experiences in their own right.
This midsummer solemnization of the battles for Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité - Liberty, Equality, and the bonds of people in community - reminds us that Freedom cannot protect itself and needs our tending.
I hope you enjoy listening to Valentina Lisitsa and the Bergmann Duo, each Dranoff2 International Competition winners.
Wishing you a great week.
Warmly,
Gabriele Fiorentino
