MUSIC MONDAYS

Dear Gabriele -

“Remember Noah.  It was so hot, sand as far as the eye could see.”

This was a poem performed by Lenelle Moise, the Haitian born poet, actor and playwright who participated in Piano Slam 6, 2014.

We chose to share this performance today because today are beginning the in-school workshops for Piano Slam 2022, themed: “Hot Music. Hot Miami”. So this poem seems very appropriate.

But there is another connection:  the Piano Slam stage director for seven years was Teo Castellanos who is premiering a new work for the Miami Light Project this week.  He is a true creator and maker, and he was an incredible inspiration for all the students - and artists - who had the great fortune to work with him.  He challenged them to find their strength and challenged even more to go beyond what they would have ever thought. He did it with respect and humanity and they trusted him.

Respect. Humanity. Trust. Words to live by.

Have a beautiful week.

Warmly,

Gabriele Fiorentino
