MUSIC MONDAYS
J.S.Bach - Hess: Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, BWV147

I just got a message about my average daily screen time. 8 hours last week. That can’t be!
Or can it?

Like most of us are, I am spending a lot of my life virtually. It is one way – a safe way – to go about our lives, to continue working, learning, being connected to our circle. And it is also a way to escape this strange prison we inhabit right now. We can enjoy a play, watch a film, or listen to music. We close our eyes and we can go on a journey, no longer separated, but in the company of the artists and composers and writers. It feels good.

Right now, our actions are still confined by safety considerations, very much limited to the cyberworld. I, for one, am grateful to be able to stay connected and to be of service to the artists who lead us into those journeys.

Yoshie and Takashi are laureates of the Dranoff 2 Piano Competition. They have built an exciting performance career as a piano duo in Japan. They are sought-after competition judges. And their dedication to teaching both solo piano as well as their beloved duo piano art form builds a foundation for the next generation of musicians.

Dranoff is committed to evolve our performance models; we are doing a lot of research, we talk to the artists, and look forward to conversations with you. What changes would make you feel comfortable and joyful in partaking in music performance? How can we continue to make it exciting and beautiful? Very shortly we will offer a brief survey to help us define the way ahead. I look forward to get your responses, and to talk with you.
The screen is comfort, needed and crucial. But cold comfort, nonetheless.

Let’s find the right way to bring us all together again, so that Facetime will be replaced by face time.

Warmly,

Gabriele Fiorentino
