Hello Friends, and welcome to my news!
I hope that you and your loved ones are well! It is clear to me that our times call for empathy, innovation, enjoying what can be enjoyed, and for diligently manifesting that which we wish to see. I have had a busy spring and summer and I am excited to let you know about some of my endeavors. Inspired and honored by the unique artists who contributed to my work during these times, I invite you to experience some of what we have created.

The Met Museum NYC World Premieres
On Aug 14 2020 The Metropolitan Museum of Art broadcast three of my pieces set to brand new videos. City Freaky, Graves, and Once You Are Not A Stranger were presented as part of Balcony Bar From Home/Met Live Arts hosted by ETHEL string quartet.
The collaboration also felt like the continuation of a dream of mine about a new hybrid world - now a reality - we can and should all be formulating together! I am humbled by the number of views and the extremely positive comments that poured from all corners fo the globe. Special thanks go to Michael Gochanour and MixUpNYC for their video and animation magic, and to Carolyn Dorfman Dance and Janis Brenner & Dancers who originally commissioned the music.
The effort put into this performance by my whole team and the outstanding ETHEL artists embodies some of my most important artistic ideals - break the barriers of musical division and dare envision new societal models. For this I am forever grateful to ETHEL, contralto Samille Niambi Steed and vocal improviser extraordinaire Philip Hamilton who are featured in the pieces.

CDD/Ballet of the National Theater Sarajevo World Premiere
Join me! The July 2020 premiere of the collaborative work Alone/Together between two beautiful companies Carolyn Dorfman Dance and the Ballet of the National Theater Sarajevo was a fine example of the unifying power of dance across continents in times of social distancing and cancelled rehearsals. The music I lent to this production is a synth fantasy which has its origins in Sarajevo in the nineties. It is now finding its purpose in connecting cities in dance (e)motion during a period of yet another challenge and innocence lost - a pandemic - and the possibility of a fuller heart regained in overcoming. You can watch Here.
Perspectives on Music Production
Thrilled to have contributed a chapter to the book Perspectives On Music Production: Gender In Music Production, published in April 2020 by Routledge, U.K., part of the Francis & Taylor Group. The editors Russ Hepworth-Sawyer, Jay Hodgson, Liesl King, and Mark Marrington write:
“Bukvich’s creative, fictocritical essay draws on detailed memories of musical epiphany in order to reveal episodic insight into sonic revelation, gender relations, genre hybridity, and artistic collaborations.”
Thank you to the editorial team at Taylor and Francis for this opportunity, and to my colleagues, male and female producers from the US, Spain, Canada, Australia, Denmark, and the UK for their excellent and important work.
AI and the Arts: Artificial Imagination
My music has been discussed in a paper presented at Proceedings of EVA London 2020 (EVA 2020) July 6-9 conference on the theme of AI and the Arts: Artificial Imagination. The paper is part of the dissertation Border-Crossing Female Artists Between Experimental and Popular Music From 1970 to the Present Day in Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina by Marina Vesic-Eder conducted at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. It is fun, and an honor, to be in the company of Lene Lovich, Milica Paranosic, Alexandra Sladjana Milosevic, Ana Milosavljevic, Lydia Lunch, and Marina Abramovic.
You can read the paper abstract Here.

Thank you for reading, and I'll look forward to connecting with you soon! Stay tuned for upcoming events in and around NYC.

Yours,

Svjetlana
