SUMMER MUSIC CLASSES
Are you going to be around for some or all of your summer?
Since many students travel in June, July and August, we have more space for those in town to make, learn and explore music. Maybe you want to try a new instrument or voice lessons? Or perhaps audition for school band or marching band? Aren't these Big Show bands fun? Why not keep the group play going?

REPLY TO THIS EMAIL IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO:
1) Extend your lesson time to 1 hour, or enroll in a second 30 minute weekly session on either a new instrument or your current one - 10% DISCOUNT FOR CURRENT STUDENTS
2) Join a Summer band

It's OK if you are traveling for a short period of time, we'll either make-up the missed classes, or pro-rate you, depending on the details of the trip.
JOIN THE FACEBOOK EVENT & INVITE FAMILY, NEIGHBORS & FRIENDS
RSVP on Facebook & share to help the kids have a larger audience. They have worked so hard on their music, let's show them that it ain't called "The Big Show" for nothing!

2 Free As-is Keyboards: Little Bit of Fixer-uppers
We have upgraded 2 keyboards lately & would like to give away the old ones. They are full size, 88 weighted keys & rather heavy (don't expect grandma to be able to carry it to the car). We are offering these in "as-is" condition. They have had plenty of use here, and definitely do not operate flawlessly. With a nice clean of the electronics inside, they'll probably be fully functional. Great for a student of both piano and repair! If you're interested, Please reply to this email. Thanks for helping keep these keyboards in use and not in the e-waste recycling.
PRIZE UPDATE! GRAND PRIZE 6 MONTHS OF LESSONS & iPAD (NOT iPAD MINI)
It's prime time for earning tickets! And now you can earn your way to an iPad (NOT an mini). How exciting for the kids...parents tend to like the 6 months of free lessons...

Anyways, there are TONS of ways to earn your chance to win. Go for it! https://musictimeacademy.com/raffle/
TIPS WELCOME
From Solving Stage Fright is a Relational Process

Lee Glickstein, a former stand-up comedian, had paralyzing stage fright. Can you imagine wanting so much to share one’s humor but, at the same time, being so frightened of being on stage? Glickstein made it his goal to figure out how he could be himself, be at ease, and deliver material enjoyed by the audience.

The first was to consciously breathe in oxygen, and the second was to be available for eye contact in a way where he could “find a home in people’s eyes.” Full breaths help the speaker to come back to a sense of being more emotionally centered and also give the audience time to “catch up,” absorbing what is being said. Breathing practices can also directly modulate the nervous system as one calms the reptilian brain.

The specific kind of eye contact Glickstein uses, soft eye gaze, is the practice of experiencing connection with one’s audience through a neutral gaze of positive regard without agenda, or even a need for words in any given moment. Soft eye gaze releases the social bonding hormone oxytocin, which may well explain the increased sense of safety and trust that audiences report feeling when experiencing it...
THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON MUSIC
JACK quartet receives Fellowship to explore music and neuroscience

The JACK Quartet has received a Creative Fellowship from the University of Washington for its latest research project focusing on the link between neurology and music-making. The New York-based ensemble is using portable EEG and wearable muscle neuron sensors to map their brain waves while playing.
Their aim is help develop technology that allows those who have lost the ability to make music with one part of the brain to train themselves to make music using other parts and processes of their brain.

The technology in question is the encephalophone, an instrument you can play simply by thinking, and which builds on brain-computer interfaces...

OUR CONCERT PICK
Leo Kottke
Friday & Saturday, June 7th & 8th 8:00pm
Starline Social Club in Oakland
Few players have done as much for the state of their instrument as Leo Kottke, and even fewer have seen the level of success that he has as a largely instrumental artist. Stretching his fingers around jazz, bluegrass, rock, and Americana, Leo plays in an odd language. His finger-picking and extensive use of open tunings make him a tough player to pigeonhole, and a mesmerizing act to see.
FEATURED TEACHER:
Chris Curtis
"[Teaching Music} is such an intuitive, in the moment thing. I’m always trying to follow some kind of lead or light that is keeping both me and this person engaged. It’s got to be real, a real conversation between us.”

Chris may very well hold the record for having met the most students currently at Music Time. As a Livermore local, he has saved the day many times lately when regular teachers call out sick or with car trouble or other emergencies. As a musician skilled in many instruments, he's been able to step up and substitute teach lessons to nearly any teacher on staff. Ever since I met Chris at Espresso Rosetta one morning, I have been grateful for the random encounter! It was a blast to finally get some of his background. I think you'll enjoy is story, especially as we get a little bit into his teaching philosophy at the end. Enjoy!
