WCAI Story on Muskeget Channel Tidal Program

Earlier this week, WCAI, the Cape and Islands public radio station aired an interview with John Miller updating progress on the Muskeget Channel tidal energy site. Go to this link to read and listen to the story.

Edgartown Explores Tides as Potential Future Renewable Energy Source

The story states that there is a $2million deal to develop the site for testing, in reality that $2million has already been spent and MRECo is working with the Town of Edgartown to raise and additional $300,000 to complete two remaining studies needed to finalize the permits.

ICOE was a well attended event, boasting nearly 600 exhibitors and delegates. There was a focus on FORCE which is the Bay of Fundy ocean current test site that is just coming on line. There were many very interesting presentations and panel discussions. The venue was terrific and the food was arguably the best presented at an event such as this. Kudos to the organisational team at Marine Renewables Canada for thier hard work. It showed and we appreciated it!

Ocean Energy Track Makes a Splash

Anna too

The Ocean Energy Environmental Studies and Instrumentation Session was chaired by Patrick Lorenz, Maine Maritime Academy and speakers included (l-r) Phillip Blondel - University of Bath; Nina Stark - Virginia Tech; Anna Michel - Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution; Nuno Cruz - University of Porto

Last month, 26 technical presentations devoted to Ocean Energy topics were highlighted at the leading annual ocean science and technology forum, Oceans 2014 in St. Johns' Newfoundland. These sessions were well attended and included presentations by engineers and scientists from research institutes and companies from around the globe.

MTS is an excellent venue for ocean energy topics to be discussed because the community encompasses professionals versed in virtually all the science, engineering and policy aspects of doing work in the demanding marine environment. Future Oceans programs will definitely issue Calls for Abstracts about ocean energy topics, in fact Oceans 2015 to be held in Genova, Italy May 18-21 is focusing on Discovering Sustainable Ocean Energy for a New World.
