Mustang Receives Recognition from the Texas Rural Water Association

During the last week of March, Mustang Special Utility District staff attended the Texas Rural Water Association (TRWA) RuralWaterCon annual conference in San Antonio. Among the presentations and collaboration, Mustang Special Utility District was recognized by TRWA for Large System Excellence for 2024.

This award is presented annually to a single water system that serves more than 1,500 connections and exemplifies excellence, dedication, and achievement in the field. Among other accolades, Mustang was specifically nominated for the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.

The Texas Rural Water Association is the primary support organization of Special Utility Districts (SUDs) in Texas. Mustang Special Utility District's General Manager, Chris Boyd, served as a past President and Board Member of the organization.

We could not be more proud of this recognition as it emphasizes our commitment to being a utility Second to None!

Gunter Library & Museum Easter Event

Our Mustang SUD team had an incredible time at the Gunter Library & Museum Easter Event on March 23! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and played a part in making it a success.

Emily McBroom - GIS Manager 

Introducing Emily McBroom, Mustang Special Utility District’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Manager! Emily is the first full-time GIS employee for Mustang and has been with the District for two years.

As GIS Manager, Emily is responsible for overseeing all things map-related, but it’s not as simple as it sounds. Utilizing ESRI GIS computer software, Emily and her team provide accurate locations along with data that can be viewed in the field and analyzed in different ways. She aids each of our departments as well as developers by building and maintaining maps of our infrastructure full of data including all valves, pipes, and meters as well as their installation dates and more. Currently, Emily is working on writing Python code to automate mapping where possible and improve GIS processes for all of our staff.

Residential water meters in the Krugerville area have nearly reached the end of their operating life expectancy.

Challenge

To ensure the reliability of service and accuracy of readings for customers, over 1,000 meters need to be replaced before they reach the end of their operating life expectancy.

Solution

Mustang's Meter Services Department has a dedicated project crew for meter changeouts. They are working daily to prep meter boxes and change meters to ensure a smooth transition for our customers.

Project Investment

Approximately $420,000.

This project is a vital step in maintaining our system, staying on top of demand and serving our customers in the Krugerville area.
