Dear Marquette Families,
I hope you have had the opportunity to join our Community Read. We are currently reading Sylvia & Aki and Separate is Never Equal. Mrs. Heindel has been sharing different ways to engage in the Community Read and that information is included in this newsletter.
As the weather gets colder, and we continue to socially distance, I hope you and your family can find some joy and togetherness in books. Reading and enjoying books has many benefits such as encouraging empathy, builds a better understanding of relationships, reduces stress, and increases ability to share and talk about emotions. These are all benefits we can appreciate right now.
Your child has access to Sora which is an online library of eBooks. There is a range of books available that should appeal to children of all ages and interests. You can access these e books through the Marquette Virtual Learning site or Marquette Library Portal. You will find on the portal that Mrs. Heindel recommends books related to our community read and other relevant topics.
Mrs. Heindel is also offering limited curbside pick up of books at Marquette some Tuesday mornings. She emails the details in advance. Curbside pickup is also available at many other elementary libraries if the location and times work better for you there. Find information on other libraries’ open times as well as Madison Public Library curbside pickup on this site: MMSD Library Books.
I’ve always thought winter was a great time for a cozy book. This year it’s even more important. I hope you are able to work books and reading into your family’s schedules.
Happy Reading!
Mrs. Parks

Digital Citizenship Lessons
It’s more important than ever to know how to find and use reliable digital information and interact online in a safe, kind, and responsible manner.
All classes finished their Digital Citizenship lessons in November, with weekly activities on Wednesdays in Seesaw. Check out these resources from Common Sense Media to keep the conversation going!

Hello from the virtual art room!

Hello from the virtual art room!
Recently, we have been learning about perspective (the way we see things) and value (light to dark). In this project, we looked at artist Jeff Koons famous balloon sculptures and examined how light reflected off the art creating natural highlights and shadows. Then we tried our own! It’s tricky to translate a 3-D object into 2-D but with a little value practice, these kids nailed it!
I also wanted to say thank you for supporting your artist(s) during these times. Art over zoom is not the easiest but our mustangs have stepped up, embraced the challenges and are doing amazing. This is hard on all of us and your support does not go unnoticed, so again, THANK YOU! As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Stay safe,
Marnie (Mrs. Miran)
