Health Guidelines, and Attendance
MMSD will continue to use the Student Health Screener for students who test positive or exhibit symptoms of COVID. We encourage families to send students to school each day if injury or illness does not significantly compromise the student’s health and there is no risk of transmission to the school community. Please see the link to the right for guidance regarding attendance.
MMSD Policy:
- A student should not return to school until they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
- If a student vomits, they should remain out of school for 24 hours after the vomiting stops.
- Students with diarrhea should wait 24 hours after their last incident to return to school.
- Students will be sent home if diarrhea causes soiled clothing.
- If your student has been on antibiotics for 24 hours with diagnosed strep throat, we encourage them to be at school.
You must report your child’s absence on the day your child will remain at home. To report an absence:

Morning Drop Off
Students should be dropped off between 7:25 am and 7:35 am each day. Staff will open the doors at 7:25 am.
Students will enter the building through Door 5 on the corner of Jenifer St. and Rogers St.
Staff will be present at the door to greet students.
Parent/Guardian Car Drop Off:
- Drop-off parking is on the school side of Jenifer St. We suggest coming onto Jenifer St. at Dickenson St. and exiting Jenifer St. on Rogers St. There is a traffic signal at Rogers and Williamson.
- If you go to Thornton, DO NOT TURN RIGHT unless you are dropping off an O’Keeffe student.
Bus Riders:
Bus riders will remain on the bus until a staff member greets the bus and releases the children. Information about bus times and stops is in the Parent Portal and at https://www.madison.k12.wi.us/transportation/marquette-bus-routes. (Please note, that routes take 10-15 seconds to load after clicking on the link.)
Walkers, bikers, scooters:
Cross only at crosswalks. Crossing guards are located at Williamson & Thornton starting at 7:10 am and Jenifer & Thornton starting at 7:15 am. Safety Patrol is at Rogers & Jenifer from 7:25 am to 7:40 am; please make sure students only cross at designated crosswalks. There are 3 bike racks on the Jenifer St. side of the building. Please lock all bikes and scooters to the rack.

Breakfast and Lunch
It is important to note that families will be charged for breakfast and lunch this year; please make sure your student knows if you want them to eat school breakfast and/or lunch.
If students choose to eat breakfast at school, they will do so in their classrooms. Lunch will be served in our cafeteria. MMSD uses the service School Café to connect families to MMSD School Nutrition. Creating an account is quick and easy and will offer access to school menus, account balance, payment options, and the ability to apply and see the status of your free and reduced lunch application.
Here is what you need to do:
-
Create your account on School Café.
- You will need your student's school ID number to create an account. This can be found in Infinite Campus by clicking "today" on the left navigation bar within Infinite Campus. Or call the Marquette Office at 608-204-3225.
- An email will be sent to you to verify your email.
- Log back into your School Café account
- Access school menus, account balance, payment options, and the free and reduced lunch application
By filling out the Free and Reduced lunch application, your child and family may also qualify for other programs within MMSD and in the community.
