Did you know your water bill is based on how much water you use in 1,000-gallon intervals? Lower usage means lower costs, while higher usage—especially for outdoor irrigation—lands in higher, more expensive tiers. The goal? To encourage efficient water use and help protect our precious resources!

Our amazing team proudly joined the celebration, showcasing some of the heavy-duty trucks our Critical Resource Team uses in emergency response to keep water flowing for our community and others that need aid. These vehicles are vital to ensuring quick action when it matters most!

For this month's Infrastructure Insights, we're focusing on a critical component of our Water Distribution System: Hydro Pneumatic Tanks! These unsung heroes play a vital role in ensuring that water consistently flows to your home, maintaining the system's required pressure.

Water distribution systems rely on a few different methods to build and sustain pressure throughout the network, ensuring that customers receive water at the right pressure. This includes water towers, pumps, and pressure tanks, all working together to keep the system operating efficiently.

The Hydro Pneumatic Tanks you see in the image above are located at our Houlihan Ground Storage Tank facility. Their primary job is to maintain system pressure by using air to balance the demands placed on the water supply. When system pressure drops, whether due to high customer demand, a temporary reduction in supply, or emergency firefighting needs, these tanks spring into action. They manipulate the air inside them to fill the gap, maintaining the pressure so that your water keeps flowing smoothly.

Without these tanks, our ability to maintain the state-required pressure levels in the system would be much more difficult, especially during peak usage times. They're a crucial part of our infrastructure, working silently behind the scenes to ensure the reliability of your water supply no matter the situation.

Next time you turn on the tap, remember that it's not just water towers and pumps keeping things running—our pressure tanks are right there in the mix, keeping everything in balance!

Clint - GIS Specialist 🗺️

For over five years, Clint, our GIS Specialist, has been an integral part of Mustang Special Utility District, serving across multiple departments throughout his tenure, and gaining advanced insight into our operations. His deep understanding of how things work at Mustang makes him an invaluable asset to our team and our customers alike!

As GIS Specialist, his primary role is ensuring that our maps are always accurate—an essential task as many of our staff across Water Operations, Development, Engineering, Construction, Water Reclamation and Meter Services rely on them daily. From mapping vital infrastructure like mains, valves, and hydrants to meticulously documenting over 40,000 meters in our district, Clint provides critical support across departments. He often is asked to create new maps for special projects, helping us stay ahead of our growing community’s needs. Every day, he creates maps, builds databases, updates meter connections, and supports growth in the District by establishing easements for new infrastructure.

Recently, he tested for and was certified in the GIS Fundamentals Foundation certification from ESRI, demonstrating his commitment to excellence and innovation in his field and for our District. He’s also been instrumental in advancing Mustang toward adopting a comprehensive asset management program, a move that will enhance our operations tremendously.

According to Clint, GIS is more than just a job for him—it’s his calling. He’s passionate about using his skills to improve and serve this community. Through his dedication, leadership, and passion, he’s helping to cement Mustang’s reputation as a Utility Second to None. We’re proud to have him on our team and excited to see him continue to grow with us!

Mustang is in the process of drilling 2 new wells in the northern portion of our service area! These wells will both serve the new Cottonwood development that is beginning construction soon.

Challenge

As the population in Mustang Special Utility District's service area continues to grow in the north, additional means of water production are needed to meet customer demand during peak times.

Solution

Mustang contracted with Santa Rosa Well Service to drill the 2 wells serving the Cottonwood development. When fully operable, the wells will provide additional water supply for our customers, helping us to maintain supply during peak demand.

Project Investment

Approximately $6.5 Million combined.

The wells will support the growth in the northern portion of our service area and will soon be accompanied by a Wastewater Treatment Plant to serve the same area!
