Infrastructure Insights: Sludge Press

We’re excited to kick off our new education campaign, Infrastructure Insights, where we’ll dive deep into the nuts and bolts of our water and wastewater infrastructure. This series will take you behind the scenes to explore the crucial components that keep our community’s water systems running smoothly.

First up: the sludge press at our Sandbrock Wastewater Treatment Plant! 💧

The sludge press plays a vital role in our wastewater treatment process by removing as much water as possible from the sludge produced. This process not only conserves water but also reduces disposal costs. By squeezing out the water, we produce a drier, lighter material that’s easier to manage and results in less odor. The end product is collected in a roll-off container, which can be emptied less frequently—saving time, money, and resources. As you can see from the photo, it’s no simple piece of equipment! The pipe to the right, extending upward into the wall is where the pressed material exits to the disposal.

Stay tuned as we continue to explore more fascinating infrastructure elements in our #InfrastructureInsights series. Let’s uncover the hidden heroes of our water and wastewater systems together! 🌊🔧

Project Spotlight

Mustang is in the process of drilling a new well adjacent to our Gunter satellite office and it is nearing completion!

Challenge

As the population in Mustang Special Utility District's service area continues to grow in the north, additional means of water production are needed to meet customer demand during peak times.

Solution

Mustang contracted with C Miller Drilling to drill and construct a new well adjacent to our satellite office in Gunter. When fully operable, the well will provide additional water supply for our customers, helping us to maintain supply during peak demand. Following a 36-hour pump test, it was determined that this well will produce 700 gallons per minute for our customers!

Project Investment

Approximately $4.1 Million.

The well is on schedule to be completed soon!
