Science Fair
The Science Fair Open House will be held at the NOAA building on Tuesday, February 16th from 4 PM - 7 PM.  The address is 1305 East-West Highway in Silver Spring, Md. (across from the Giant, near the Silver Spring metro).  All of the submitted projects will be on display.

PARCC Parent Information Session
There will be another opportunity for parents to learn about the PARCC assessment and how we are preparing on Friday, February 19th at 8:15 in the multi-purpose room.

A Reminder About Safety
Due to construction, it is imperative that we strive to maintain a safe and orderly drop-off and pick-up. To this end, we need your support and cooperation. Please adhere to the following:
  • The area designated by the cones is the morning drop-off/afternoon car pool pick-up zone. Please do not park and leave your vehicle. If you need to enter the building, please find an alternate parking space.
  • When arriving, please drop your students off on the side of the street closest to the school building.
  • When dropping off on the opposite side of the street, please have students walk to the crosswalk so that drivers and staff members can ensure their safety. Avoid allowing children to cross in the middle of the street in between cars.
  • Please steer clear of making u-turns in the middle of 14th Street.

     Region B championship

Support our Mustangs on our bid to return to the city-wide championship!!!

A Message from the PTA
Boys Basketball Team

Congratulations to the boys basketball team!  As the #1 division seed, they have automatically qualified for advancement into the city-wide tournament.

The boys will be playing Hearst on Thursday, February 11th @ 5:15 PM.  Because we do not have a true gymnasium space, the boys do not have home games.  Come out and support the team in their quest for the city-wide championship!

Shepherd Jazz Night

Mark your calendars and join us for the 27th Annual Shepherd Jazz Night on Thursday, February 25th @ 6:00 PM.

Jazz Night is a long-standing Shepherd tradition for both our school community and the surrounding Shepherd Park neighborhood.  We come together for a potluck dinner and to hear some wonderful jazz from musicians identified each year by Dr. Michael Wallace, founder and ongoing coordinator of Jazz Night.  Invite your neighbors to join us for a great evening of music.

Please bring a dish to share for Jazz Night.  We also need volunteers for set-up, clean-up, and serving food during the event.  Click  here to sign up to bring your dish and to volunteer your time at the event to help make it a success!

If your last name begins with:

A - H:  please bring a main dish
I - N:   please bring a side dish
O - S:  please bring a dessert
T - Z:   please bring drinks (bottled water, juice boxes)

Annual Shepherd Spring Gala

This year's Spring Gala will have a theme of Monte Carlo Casino Night.  We need parents and teachers to make the magic happen and ensure that we have a highly successful fundraiser.  Volunteering is also a great way to meet other Shepherd parents!

To join the gala team, please contact Spring Gala chairs:
Jennell Alexander (jennell.alexander@gmail.com)
Laura Levine (l3seven7@aol.com).

BoxTops for Education

Don't forget to keep clipping those Box Tops for Education and drop them off in the Box Tops collection box in the main office.  Each one is worth 10 cents - over time, that can add up to a significant fundraiser for our school!
