MY CONFESSION: I'M AFRAID OF HEIGHTS

One of the biggest battles we face in life isn’t always the obstacle in front of us.

It’s the conversation happening inside our own minds.

I was reminded of that recently while standing at the entrance of the Tibetan Bridge in Andorra.

I have a confession…

I’m afraid of heights.

So when Michelle looked at me and asked, “Do you want to cross it?” my mind immediately started creating reasons why I shouldn’t.

The bridge stretched across the Pyrenees, suspended high above the valley. For many people, it was an incredible adventure and a chance to experience a breathtaking view.

For me, it was a mindset challenge.

My first thought was, “No way.”

But then came the question I couldn’t avoid…

How do I say no?

Especially to my wife.

So I took the first step.

The interesting thing about fear is that it doesn’t disappear just because we decide to move forward. The fear was still there. The thoughts were still there. The voice in my head was still trying to convince me to turn around.

So I had to choose which voice I was going to listen to.

I started talking to myself. I blocked out the noise and focused on the step in front of me instead of everything happening around me. At one point, I even tried to dance a little—not because I was suddenly comfortable, but because I was trying to shift my mindset and remind myself that I was in control.

Slowly, something changed.

I found a rhythm.

The fear didn’t disappear, but it became quieter.

There were moments when I had to stop, take a breath, reset, and remind myself to keep moving forward. But every time I did, I proved to myself that I was capable of taking another step. And that’s when the lesson became clear.

Most challenges in life are not conquered in one giant moment. They are conquered through small decisions repeated over time.

One step.

One choice.

One moment of courage.

We often wait until we feel confident before we take action. But confidence doesn’t come before the challenge. Confidence is built because we faced the challenge.

That bridge was never really about heights.

It was about mindset.

It reminded me that courage isn’t the absence of fear. Courage is moving forward even when fear is present.

Every one of us has a Tibetan Bridge in our life.

Something we’ve been avoiding.

Something that feels uncomfortable.

The question isn’t whether fear will show up.

It will.

The question is: will you let fear make the decision for you?

You don’t have to cross the entire bridge today.

You just have to take the next step.

LEADERSHIP IS ABOUT MORE THAN A TITLE

Every once in a while, you come across a story that reminds you what great leadership truly looks like.

Team Leader Danielle Hanson was recently featured in VoyageMIA, sharing her journey, her perspective, and what has shaped her as a leader.

What stood out was that coaching naturally became part of the conversation. Not because she was asked to talk about it, but because it has been a meaningful part of her growth and development.

When asked about finding a mentor or coach, Danielle shared:

“When it comes to finding a mentor or coach, my advice is to find someone who truly understands and gets to know you and is aligned with your values, vision, and goals. It’s not just about accountability. The right mentor or coach should challenge your thinking, help you to discover and understand your purpose, encourage your growth, and motivate you to become the best version of yourself while staying true to who you are.”

Those words capture what leadership is all about.

Great leaders understand that growth isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s about knowing yourself, staying aligned with your values, and surrounding yourself with people who challenge and support you along the way.

Danielle’s story is a great reminder that leadership isn’t defined only by a position or a title. It’s defined by the impact you have on the people around you and the commitment to continue growing.

We invite you to take a few minutes to read Danielle’s VoyageMIA feature and get to know the person behind the leadership.

"HI, I'M JUDY...AND I SELL PANCAKES."

Six words changed everything.

Not because they were part of a carefully designed marketing strategy.

Not because Judy Wang had a massive advertising budget.

But because they were authentic.

They were Judy.

Today, millions of people know Judy as the smiling owner behind Judy’s Family Café, the woman with the oversized glasses, contagious energy, and unforgettable introduction.

But before the viral videos, the followers, and the pancake mix on store shelves, there was simply a dream.

Judy came to the United States from China in 2017 with a willingness to work and a desire to build a better future. Like many entrepreneurs, she didn’t start with a big platform or a built-in audience.

She started by learning.

She worked in restaurants, studying the business from the ground up. She learned what customers loved, what created a great experience, and what it took to run a successful café.

In 2019, Judy took one of the biggest risks an entrepreneur can take.

She opened her own restaurant in Galesburg, Illinois: Judy’s Family Café.

At first, it was a local breakfast spot.

A place where people could enjoy pancakes, breakfast favorites, and a warm smile from the owner.

But Judy understood something that many businesses miss:

People don’t just remember what you sell.

They remember how you make them feel.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

Judy started creating videos online.

No expensive production.

No complicated scripts.

No attempt to become someone else.

Just Judy.

She would look into the camera and say:

“Hi, I’m Judy… and I sell pancakes.”

That simple introduction became her signature.

People connected with her personality, her humor, her positivity, and the genuine joy she brought to every video.

The videos spread.

Then they exploded.

Millions of people started watching. People who had never heard of Galesburg, Illinois suddenly knew Judy’s name. Visitors began traveling from across the country to experience the café and meet the person they felt like they already knew.

But Judy didn’t stop at viral videos.

She turned attention into opportunity.

The brand expanded beyond the walls of the restaurant with merchandise, pancake mix, and new opportunities to continue growing the Judy’s Family Café story.

A small breakfast café became a national conversation.

And that’s where the real lesson begins.

Because Judy’s success wasn’t built on pancakes.

The pancakes gave people a reason to visit.

Judy gave them a reason to care.

As leaders, coaches, and entrepreneurs, we often look for the next strategy, the next tool, or the next marketing idea that will take us to another level.

But sometimes the biggest opportunity is already in front of us.

It’s ourselves.

Your story matters.

Your journey matters.

Your personality matters.

In a world where businesses are constantly trying to look bigger, more polished, and more professional, Judy reminds us that people are still drawn to something simple:

Authenticity.

People don’t connect with a logo.

They connect with a person.

So the question worth asking is:

What makes you unforgettable?

Because the businesses that create the biggest impact aren’t just the ones people know.

They’re the ones people feel connected to.

And sometimes, that journey starts with something as simple as:

“Hi, I’m Judy… and I sell pancakes.”
