Zdravo!

I was heartened by the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) December campaign themes of one family and generation to generation. This speaks to my own roots. I was born in Canton, Ohio, that cradle of football and Macedonians. My father came to the United States in 1914 and my mother and brother joined him in 1936.

The memory of my parents has inspired me to this day. Indeed, I was recently blessed with my first great-grandchild, the fifth generation of the Vlasho family in the U.S. I am deeply interested, even concerned, that there is a place that will ensure continuity for generations to come. I believe UMD is that place.

I have had the good fortune to work in executive capacities in one of America’s great corporations and multiple other businesses. I have supported, headed, or founded more than 20 different nonprofit or charitable entities. Building a stronger community has been at the heart of all my efforts.

We have the opportunity to cement a rock-solid foundation for our global Macedonian community. There is no other current Macedonian diaspora organization that has done more than UMD in its 17 years, including helping the needy in Macedonia, preserving the memory of those who came before us, and forging that solid bridge across the waters to our future.

I hope you will join me in donating – today – right now – to UMD. The need has never been greater. The stakes have never been higher. Consider being a UMD Macedonian Companion, like myself, named for Alexander’s officers, with a donation of $1,000, $2,000, or $5,000. However, any amount you can donate will be appreciated.

Thank You, Merry Christmas, and Best Wishes for a Healthy & Prosperous 2022,

Lou Vlasho
