Tarkington Park Multipurpose Field Naming Announcement This Evening!


Last month, the Indy Parks Board unanimously approved naming the forthcoming multipurpose field the Richard "Coach Nell" Hamilton Field. While the field will not be complete until 2025, the community is invited to attend the formal naming announcement.


Mayor Joe Hogsett will join Indy Parks director Phyllis Boyd, City-County Councilor William "Duke" Oliver, and the family of Coach Nell tonight at Tarkington Park, 45 W. 40th St., at 5:30 p.m.


Funding for the multipurpose field comes as part of an $80 million grant to Indy Parks from the Lily Endowment announced in January.

Juneteenth Freedom Celebration Planning


Join your neighbors in planning the third annual Juneteenth Freedom Celebration in Tarkington Park.


The event, scheduled for Saturday, June 17, celebrates the liberation of Blacks from bondage, the many successes achieved since emancipation, and the rich culture that continues to thrive. Activities include a youth basketball clinic, spoken word and musical artists, and community tabling.


An initial planning meeting will take place from on Thursday, April 27 from 9 - 10 a.m. on Thursday, at the Midtown Indy office, 3965 N. Meridian Street Suite G. A Zoom option is also available. Please RSVP to Danita Hoskin indicating whether you plan to join virtually or in person.

Bulldog Jog Races Through Butler-Tarkington


More than 600 runners, walkers, and dogs will participate in Saturday’s Bulldog Jog benefitting Butler student programs, Indy Runners scholarship program, and IndyHumane. The event offers a 5k run/walk, 10k run/walk, and 1-mile dog walk featuring Butler Blue as grand marshal. Registration will remain open through April 20.


There will be no parking allowed along the following streets on Saturday:

  • Sunset Ave. from 49th to 46th streets
  • Sunset Ave. and Lake Rd.
  • Clarendon W. Dr. and 46th St.
  • Clarendon Rd. and West Hampton Dr.
  • W. 44th St. and Haughey Ave.
  • Haughey Ave. and 42nd St.
  • W. 42nd St. and N. Michigan Rd.


Any vehicle parked in violation of the restriction will be towed starting at 4 a.m. on the day of the race.

Free Ivy Tech Classes for High School Students


High school students can explore future careers while earning college credit utilizing Ivy Tech's free tuition and textbook program this summer. Students may work towards the Indiana College Core or an Associate Degree. Seniors searching for what comes after graduation are also invited to explore their options and get an introduction to the college classroom.

Broad Ripple Village Association members will hear from community partners on topics such as the IPS Rebuilding Stronger Program, public safety, and Broad Ripple Avenue Construction.

Great Decisions Series: Economic Warfare

Michael Przybylski, Ph.D. , retired IUPUI professor discusses the effectiveness of economic warfare measures ranging from sanctions to inciting strikes. The event is free and open to the public.

Night of 100 Languages

See what makes the school, students, and teachers unique during this special open house. Several food trucks will sell meals and snacks in the school parking lot. Pedestrian traffic will be particularly heavy so consider riding bikes to the event.

Earth Day Electronics Recycling Event

April 22 | 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. | Riverside Park, 2420 Riverside Dr.

Properly recycle your outdated or broken electronics and keep potential toxic metals and/or chemicals out of the waste stream. Generally speaking, anything with a cord is eligible for recycling. There is no cost to drop off materials.

Historic Meridian Park Alley Clean-Up

April 29 | 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. | Pocket Park, 209 E. 33rd St.

Gather in the Pocket Park for coffee, donuts, and a game plan before heading out to bag trash in the alleys and streets of Historic Meridian Park. Sign up in advance to volunteer for prep, clean up, or loading trash onto the packer truck.

All-Community Medicaid Benefits & Outreach Fair

April 29 | 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. | Pocket Park, 209 E. 33rd St.

Rules for Medicaid are changing, potentially leaving hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers without health insurance coverage. Outreach teams will provide personal assistance to Medicaid users on how to keep their benefits or find new insurance. The event will have food trucks, exercise demonstrations, and kids' activities.

Decorators’ Show House and Gardens

April 29 - May 14 | Times Vary | The Failey House, 57 E. 57th St.

Interior designers and landscape architects have worked to transform an elegant Meridian-Kessler home for two weeks of tours. Proceeds from the 62nd annual event help St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild with its goal of raising $1M for the Eskenazi Health Behavioral Health Academy.

Meridian-Kessler/Crossroads AME Church Blood Drive

April 30 | 12 - 4 p.m. | Crossroads AME Church, 4602 N. College Ave.

Give the gift of life by donating blood with Versiti Indiana. Donors must be 16 years or older and weigh at least 110 pounds. Appointments are available for whole blood and double red cell donations.

  • The BU: BeReal residential camp for rising high school Freshman through Seniors is a customized immersive leadership and college experience. Your student will have the opportunity to meet and connect with other high school students, explore campus, and take part in a variety of classes and information sessions led by the various colleges within Butler University. Registration and the $25 registration fee is due by May 1, and tuition assistance applications are available. 
  • The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Association asks community members to share experiences of trail-oriented development and thoughts for how more trail-oriented development could benefit Central Indiana through a survey open through April 28.
  • Join the Communi-TEA Book Club created by the Catch the Stars Foundation. Open to all ages and reading levels, the free club offers monthly book selections, themes, activities, and invites to pop-up events.
  • Indiana Legal Help provides Hoosiers assistance in finding housing related resources, legal forms, assistance events, and legal assistance organizations. Individuals may also email licensed pro bono attorneys for free legal advice.
  • Report street and alley maintenance concerns, missed trash pickup, or animal care concerns via RequestIndy.
  • If you've experienced or witnessed a potential bias-motivated crime, report it to the Marion County Hate Crimes Hotline at (317) 327-5314.
  • Submit traffic complaints including speeding, illegally parked vehicles, and running red lights to IMPD online.
