MIDTOWN ECONOMIC COUNCIL PUBLIC TO REVIEW BROAD RIPPLE KROGER PROPOSAL
The Midtown Economic Council (MEC) will host a public meeting on Thursday, December 15 at 5:30 p.m. Limited in-person seating is available at COhatch Broad Ripple, 6151 Central Avenue, for those who RSVP in advance to info@midtownindy.org. The public may also register to join via Zoom.
The MEC is considering a developer-backed bond for a mixed-use project on the site of the former Broad Ripple Kroger grocery store, 6220 N. Guilford Avenue. Bond proceeds would support qualified development costs and eligible onsite and off-site public improvements. The proposed $72 million redevelopment project would consist of 232 multi-family units with 245 parking spaces. Approximately 3,600 sq. ft. of of retail space could accommodate a restaurant tenant.
The meeting will also include an update on the revised scope for a second project, the Madera, located in the 6400 block of Ferguson Street. The project was granted 10 years realty property tax abatement in June 2022. Since that approval, the developer sought and revised zoning approval for an additional floor and is now seeking to increase the amount of subsidy based on the expanded scope of the project.
Advance comments or questions will be accepted until 5 p.m. on December 14 to info@midtownindy.org.
NEW IVY TECH AND TEA'S ME PARTNERSHIP
On December 2, Ivy Tech Community College and Tea’s Me Community Café announced a new partnership. Beginning January 17, Tea’s Me will assume operations of a kiosk located inside Ivy Tech’s 2535 N. Capital building that was formerly managed by a national coffee chain.
According to Tea's Me owner Tamika Catchings, opening a third location was a difficult decision, especially since the location is five minutes away from each of her other locations: 140 E. 22nd Street and Tarkington Park. “I was hesitant until I drove around the community and saw there was no place where people can go and have the food options we provide,” she told the crowd at the announcement. “I’m passionate about youth and that’s the reason why I decided to move into the Ivy Tech campus.”
The new location will open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will not only offer teas, coffees and other drinks, but also grab-and-go meals. To compensate for the additional staff needed, the Tarkington Park location changed its hours of operation from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Ivy Tech Chancellor Lorenzo L. Esters said that other food options will be available to the community on the Fall Creek campus in the near future. Ivy Tech is seeking community input on food vendors and has created a short online survey.

HOLIDAY SAFETY TIPS
IMPD North District Crime Prevention Specialist Gerardo Becerra shared the following prevention tips for keeping you and your belongings safe over the holidays.
Burglary Prevention:
Have a close friend or trustworthy neighbor keep an eye on your property while you're gone. This includes taking out the trash on the appropriate day, picking up mail and newspapers, and feeding your animals if applicable.
If you have an alarm-monitored home, make sure the contact list is updated.
If you have a garage door with an automatic opener, disable the emergency release and lock the garage door.
Lock all of your doors and windows properly.
Break down all boxes and keep them in the garage or backyard until ready for trash day.
Vehicle Safety:
Have a spare key or key fob to the vehicle so that you can lock it if going inside to stay warm while your vehicle warms up.
Do not leave a vehicle running inside the garage with the garage door shut. Exhaust fumes are dangerous.
Do not leave a vehicle unattended, especially with kids, pets, or valuables in it.
