5G Resources

Many Midtown residents have received notification of multiple requests for a variance of development standards to install wireless cell structures. Neighborhood leaders have requested and received automatic continuances in order to give the community time to fully inform neighbors about the massive deployment that has been on-going since 2015. The Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association (MKNA) has rallied the support of the Broad Ripple Village Association and the Butler Tarkington Neighborhood Association as well as City-County Councillors John Barth and Keith Potts. Together, they've sent an open letter to Mayor Joe Hogsett and Department of Metropolitan Development interim director Rusty Carr to outline issues and recommendations.

MKNA posts useful information about the issue.

Eric Whites of North Willow Farms homeowners association created an online map of Marion County showing locations of all small cell towers and the disposition of each location.

The Department of Metropolitan Development current planning staff must review each petition for variance and offer a report either supporting approval or denial of each request. The Sept. 22 staff report outlines many of the staff's reservations about installation of cell towers in residential areas.

Written statements may be emailed to [email protected], and must be
submitted 24 hours prior to the hearing. They should include the case number and approximate address of the sign location. Citizens may also email [email protected] with the address of the proposed 5G pole for general information regarding the case number or the staff planner assigned to the case.

Volunteers Needed at Charitable Food Banks
Once the Indiana National Guard ends its temporary, six-month deployment to aid Indiana's food banks on Sept. 30, 2020,  volunteers will be urgently needed. Since being deployed in early April, guardsmen have served more than 36 million meals to more than four million Hoosiers. Feeding Indiana's Hungry, the statewide charitable food distribution network is partnering with the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration to put out a call for volunteers. Food banks have adapted their operations to prioritize the safety of volunteers and are experienced in providing food to those in need while following public health guidelines using touchless, drive-thru distributions with pre-boxed food. Volunteer by filling out a brief online form.

Help IFD Catch Arsonist

On Wednesday, Sept. 15, Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) firefighters had a busy night responding to three intentionally set fires within a 2.1 mile radius - including one in Midtown. An abandoned house near 38th and Kenwood was destroyed. The two-story structure required 12 IFD units as well as one Pike Township unit to battle the blaze which caused slight exterior damage to an adjacent home to the south. There was no damage to any other neighboring structures. IFD/IMPD Fire Investigations have ruled all of the fires arson and asks anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
Fall in Love with a Shelter Pet

Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) is offering a special "Fall in Love" adoption event to help clear out crowded kennels. Through September 26 adoptions of dogs and cats at the shelter are FREE and are available by appointment-only, except on Wednesdays when IACS holds "Walk-Up" hours. See all adoptable animals and fill out an online adoption application here.

2020 Census Deadline Approaches!
Everyone counts in the census regardless of immigration status. Individual #2020Census answers cannot be shared with anyone for 72 years - not law enforcement, immigration, or even the President of the United States. Originally, the U.S. Census Bureau established an October 31 deadline, but they've moved it up to September 30 so if you have not already completed the form, do it today online or by calling (844) 330-2020. By doing so, you'll help make sure Indiana gets its fair share of federal funds to help local communities pay for schools, roads, and other public services. That's because the results of the census are used to determine how much money is distributed to communities.
