Force Necessary: Hand

Just Some SFC-Force necessary news…

First howdy to all. This email is only going out first to instructors and a few important others, new and old, so you can catch up with news of this inner system working-change. (There are 245 of you on this list from all over the world.)

I have been on the Professor Gaylord Kajukenbo Family tree chart for many years now, thanks to Dean Goldade mentoring me up through the ranks. As it turned out a few months ago I was promoted to 8th Dan, again thanks to Dean’s influence. A total surprise. These upper-end ranks are usually awarded for dedication, work, etc. I will say that, to this end, I am at very least - obsessive. While Dean is a big branch on the tree, I am a twig sticking out from his branch. (Here is that “twiggy” section. You can see I was able to process Rawhide laun and Tim Llacuna into the tree, via Dean’s acceptance. He knows them well.)

Kajukenbo, as in syllable speaking – is Karate, Jujitsu-judo, Kenpo, Boxing - has its origins in Hawaii. I started in Parker Kenpo in 1972, (as an adult) so I was aware of the Hawaiian era stories. On Saturdays there was a group class and after the official class we sparred with guest local schools. In the 1970s there weren’t many schools by the way, they were pretty hardcore, and we-they were all adults. No protective gear. No gloves. Punches and kicks were “pulled” a bit (not a good muscle memory habit, but… this is how we interacted, all was fun and quite sociable for the times.)

Since Parker Kenpo had a very strong kickboxing link, we would frequently beat the snot out of other schools. But, when the local Kaju guys came in…well…no. “Who are these guys?” We asked. They had the same ideology and Hawaiian origin-ideas as Parker Kenpo and gave us a run for our money." That was my first contact with Kaju and through the years I knew these guys. Dean too, and eventually many years later I even did a dual seminar with Professor Gaylord himself in California. As you could imagine he was an old school, tough S.O.B., a steel worker by day his whole life. (I am also a member of the origin member Ordonez Ohana, one of the big five founders.)

Through the years, as a side issue that helped our instructors with school-business, they sometimes needed a “martial art-martial art” so that customers might relate best too and recognize their schools. They needed more than just my usual citizen-like, certification courses. I organized “Hochheim Karate-Jujitsu” program for their needs. It was free. I had the accumulated mojo, rank over the decades to do so. I didn’t advertise it or make a big deal out of it, at all. If someone got a Force Necessary: Hand rank, and I knew some might need such help with a related martial art for their school-business, I suggested it for them. But now…

Dean has been very much "in" with all the Kajukenbo people for decades. For years, Dean and I have been working out, talking, plotting, etc. This year, after consulting with the "college Dean of Kaju," I decided to drop the low running, “Hochheim Karate-Jujitsu” and go with Dean’s long established Kajukenbo to serve this martial arts purpose. My FN: Hand course remains the same with its mission for the generic, non-art, “Functional Self Defender” combatives, fighting unarmed, standing through ground. The FN:Hand has always incorporated Karate, Jujitsu, Kenpo and Boxing, blended with other things too like JKD and FMA Mano Mano. So much so, you might say, and they said…."Hey. It’s Kajukenbo!” Dean always said that.

But now for those interested, I will now only promote and use Goldade Kajukenbo to this helpful end. It's bigger and better, international and means way more than my little, first aforementioned title-plan. I believe it will be beneficial for those seeking such recognition. The transition from FN:Hand rank to Kaju rank is not automatic. You don’t just “get it.” While they are fundamentally the same, there are some differences and some changes to satisfy. For those interested…we have to meet and discuss.

Again, for the record, my Force Necessary:Hand course remains. Goldade Kajukenbo is the martial art version for those who wish for it, or who like it and also need that martial art business angle. I do intend to make the opportunity very public. Email me for the course requirements of both.

My first Goldade Kajukenbo seminar will be August 8th on the Gold Coast in Australia.
