Volunteer Update
December 19, 2018

Dear CRC Supporter,
Whatever your holiday of choice this season, no one can deny that December is a time of celebrating our individual and collective traditions, of giving back, and of reflecting on the year behind us. One of my family’s traditions is to fill out a “Christmas Memories” Book each year. It has sections like “holiday meal” and “family visits” and “favorite gifts.”
In looking back on my last year here at CRC, a couple “favorite gifts” come to mind ...
First, it has truly been a gift to work for an organization that seeks to provide safety, stability and self-sufficiency to others.
To provide dignity at a time in someone’s life when it is easy to feel shame and hopelessness. To recognize the worth of each person who comes to CRC and to walk with them, not because we are better, but because we are human too.
Second, our thousands of volunteers have been a gift to CRC, and to me.
There are just over 40 staff here at CRC, and we feel encouraged and buoyed by the partnership, compassion, and support of all of you. It is not cliché to say that
we could not do the work we do without each of you.
Whether you sweep floors at the Resale stores, stock shelves at the Food Center, Intern in our Counseling Department, or provide seasonal help for our Holiday Baskets Program or fundraising events (just to name SOME of what volunteers do!), you keep CRC strong. Your thousands of hours of volunteer time make our programs possible and provide tangible help to others. Thank you for the work you do!
From my family to yours, I would like to extend a
very Happy Holiday Season to you!
Warmly,
Sara Rosenbaum

Holiday Baskets is in the books!
Thank you to our generous volunteers who gave of their time to this incredible program! We had troops, and teams, and company co-workers, individuals, families, rotaries, churches, schools, service organizations and more. Not only did we fill nearly 2000 volunteer spots to ensure the smooth operations at the Fairgrounds, but we had hundreds of partners holding drives, raising funds, and spreading the word on behalf of Holiday Baskets. One volunteer wrote to me saying:
“Congratulations on a wonderful event! It was apparent in the joy on the children’s’ faces, and the relief in the parent’s, that this made Christmas more special for so many deserving folks! Thank you for your heart of giving, and to the entire CRC team, a big thank you for allowing us to participate!"

Congratulations to our December Volunteer of the Month:
Sheri Seipel-Burtt
If you volunteered for Holiday Baskets, most likely you have heard the name Sheri! Sheri is our scheduling captain, and spent 20-40 hours a week on her computer, replying to emails and scheduling volunteers. With more than 175 groups to schedule (some upwards of 75 people) and 347 individuals, Sheri was busy and worked all the way through the final day of Distribution! Holiday Baskets would not be possible without her incredible service. Thank you, Sheri!

Thank you to our Holiday Baskets captains!
Holiday Baskets takes a compassionate and hard working army of volunteers. To make it work, we have captains who head up the various departments and take “ownership” of them. Captains work year-round, collecting donations, attending meetings, and preparing. They often donate hundreds of hours of their time to CRC and just finished a very long weekend, providing direction to the hundreds of volunteers who came out to the Fairgrounds to help. THANK YOU!
