The last two weeks at Tailwheel Town
BFR for David Prince. Tailwheel Town's pal, the guy who should be a CFI and good stick, David Prince came over for a BFR. We had a good time!
David and his "Clipper" when he first arrived at Sisters a few years ago
Sean McCarthy
showed up for a Tailwheel Endorsement. We're going to divide it up into two parts, but we got the first couple of lessons done, the rest will come later.
Christine Mortine, a DPE from Ohio showed up for a little "CFI on CFI" dual and a peek at how we do things at Tailwheel Town. Christine has a 140, so we did a bit of flying in Outlaw Aviation's Cessna 120. It was a good and satisfying flight.
Christine Mortine and Brian with the Outlaw C 120. Christine has a Cessna 140, so we left "Fred" in the hangar and used the 120.

Jim Mateski's PA12 on the guest tiedown at Tailwheel Town. |
My pal Jim Mateski arrived in his PA12 and volunteered to help me with airplane parking labors during the annual fourth of July Fly-in at Sisters.
|
The ramp at Sisters. With the exception of that red and white Mooney, the far side of Rwy 02 was filled with Tailwheel airplanes!
|
What a great time we all had. Everyone was sunburned and exhausted when the record-setting event was over.
Carla Yancy arrived to help with the fly-in and get a bit of review afterward. Mister Piper thinks that Carla has a good touch and loves to fly with her.

Sam Monte and Walt Lasecki at McKenzie Bridge airstrip with the PA12 and the Cessna 120.
|
Walt Lasecki and I swooped into McKenzie Bridge air strip, to scope it out for a potential camp-out for the Flight Science kids (don't tell them). Sam Monte actually beat us there in the Cessna 120, that varmint! All this horsepower and I came in second! Anyway, it's a beautiful place for a campout so we'll keep on plotting and scheming!
The week ended with "de-rusting" for Angela Keeling, who has taken to the PA12 and is flying like crazy. Now if I could just figure out why the sprinklers always seem to come on at the Madras grass strip when I am on short final!!!
This week's new article on the Tailwheeler's Journal:
"One of a Kind", might answer a few questions of how Tailwheel Town evolved and why I teach what I teach.
Old Article:
A look at Christine Mortine's Cessna 185 betrays some of its past. So, in dedication to that airplane, This previously posted article, "The Shadow Game", talks a bit about my own relationship with the California Highway Patrol so many years ago!
Happy Swooping!
