This Simple Drink Can Change Your Life: Golden Milk.
Submitted by our patient Eiise Z.

Nutrition is one of the foundations of wellness. Nutritional support before, during and after dental procedures or oral surgery are a vital component of recovery and healing.

Golden Milk is an excellent healthful drink to have on a regular basis. It provides nutritional benefits internally, while providing additional support topically to the oral area. However, since it acts as a blood thinner, those who require surgery must stop taking any form of turmeric - food or supplements 2 weeks before surgery, and 7 days after surgery.

The main ingredient in this recipe is turmeric. Turmeric has been used as a spice in Indian recipes and as Ayurvedic medicine for many thousands of years. It is the spice that gives curry it's yellow color. Turmeric may be the most effective natural nutritional supplement in existence. Turmeric is a food that falls into four categories of the "six tastes", astringent, bitter, pungent and slightly sweet.

Evidence-based studies show that it has major benefits for your body and brain. Turmeric contains curcumin, the polyphenol identified as its primary active component and which exhibits over 150 potentially therapeutic activities, which include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. It is used to relieve swelling and pain due to headaches and wounds and is called 'natural aspirin' in Ayurvedic medicine. It also possesses anti-bacterial properties and when applied to small cuts and wounds, it can stem blood flow by aiding with blood clotting, prevents infections and heals wounds.

Curcumin actually targets multiple steps in the inflammatory pathway, at the molecular level. Curcumin blocks NF-kB, a molecule that travels into the nuclei of cells and turns on genes related to inflammation. NF-kB is believed to play a major role in many chronic diseases. Combined with milk, turmeric can be used as a drink, lotion or even a face mask.

This all natural cure for various ailments is safe to use. Milk combined with turmeric provides additional benefits to bone health. This is very important for people with bone loss or bone disorders such as arthritis. Turmeric is known to help people suffering from joint pains. curcumin can increase brain levels of BDNF which is a type of growth hormone that functions in the brain. BDNF is also found in human saliva. Many common brain disorders have been linked to decreased levels of this hormone. This includes depression, major depressive disorder (MDD) and Alzheimer's disease.

Additional benefits:

Anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, antiseptic, analgesic. Boosts immunity. Anti-carcinogenic. Helps maintain cholesterol levels. Promotes digestive health. Liver detoxifier. Regulates metabolism and weight management. High blood pressure. Memory and brain function. Various skin conditions. Neurological disorders. Lowers Triglycerides. Liver Support

At times, taking medications is unavoidable and many medications can be a burden on the liver. Adding Turmeric to the diet is beneficial when taking antibiotics or pain killers as it helps the liver detoxify, while helping to reduce additional stress on the liver. Turmeric helps reduce alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels, a maker for liver damage and/or dysfunction, and gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), two
additional enzymes (when elevated) are commonly associated with liver damage.

Turmeric May Also Kill Liver Cancer. There is accumulating research on the anti-liver cancer properties of turmeric (and curcumin) and preclinical studies showing it kills liver cancer cells and tumors. One of the most remarkable facts about turmeric as a potential drug and chemotherapy alternative is it's exceptionally high margin of safety.

Increasing Turmeric's Potency

Adding black pepper to turmeric or turmeric-spiced food enhances curcumin's bio availability by 1,000 times, due to black pepper's hot property called piperine. By mixing turmeric and black pepper together, you increase your body's absorption of the turmeric by 2000% ! Curcumin is fat soluble, so the coconut oil or Ghee also helps it's absorption.

Directions: Combine all the ingredients, except honey in a saucepan. Turn the heat to medium. While heating make sure to stir constantly and do not allow the mixture to boil. Cool down, then add sweetener to
taste. Store in the fridge in a glass jar.

Step 2: Golden Milk Ingredients:

1 cup of almond milk (hemp or coconut are also good options)

1 teaspoon coconut oil or Ghee

1/4 teaspoon or more of turmeric paste

Honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar to taste.

Using Fresh Turmeric:

Slice 1/2 to 1 inch piece of turmeric and heat for up to 15 minutes along with 8 ounces of almond milk (hemp or coconut) until the milk is almost boiling. Strain out the turmeric and drink this milk after allowing it to cool for a few minutes. Add 1 teaspoon coconut oil or Ghee and honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar to taste. Store in the fridge in a glass jar.

Precautions while using turmeric:

Pregnant women are advised not to use turmeric. Turmeric being an anti-inflammatory agent can contribute to stomach ulcers. Normally turmeric in food is safe. However, since it acts as a blood thinner, those who require surgery must stop taking any form of turmeric - food or supplements a couple of weeks before surgery. It can also react with diabetic medication and medication taken to reduce stomach acid.
