A message from TTC CEO Greg Percy | | |
Congratulations to all the 2024 Rewards and Recognition winners who were honoured earlier this week. The TTC celebrated your outstanding work achievements in Safety, Customer Service, Leadership, Diversity, Teamwork, and Innovation and Sustainability.
Thank you for your excellence, your passion, and your continued service. The awards ceremony is a chance to recognize the people who go above and beyond—leaders who support their teams and make a real difference in the lives of our customers and communities. You make the TTC not just a workplace, but a community—and a world-class transit system.
We also extend thanks to the family members and loved ones who joined us on May 5. Their support plays a vital role in the success of our employees, and that did not go unnoticed.

Sunita Parajuli Thani – Administrative Assistant, Farecard Team – Strategy and Customer Experience
For Administrative Assistant, Sunita Parajuli Thani, her favourite Himalayan traditions are to celebrate Nepal’s two main festivals: Dashain and Tihar, which pay homage to two important goddesses in Nepalese culture.
Moving from Nepal to Canada was a daunting challenge for Sunita and her family. “It takes time to adapt to new cultures and languages,” said Sunita. “Fortunately, I connected with other friends who’d emigrated as well as the Newcomers Centre which was invaluable.”
When asked about this year’s theme, City of Belonging, Sunita told us that it’s all about fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates our diversity, offering everyone a sense of belonging. “It connects people and reflects my own journey of finding a place where I feel not only accepted but also valued,” she added.
In her role as Administrative Assistant, Farecard Team, Sunita oversees all administrative functions for the group. From calendar management to onboarding/offboarding staff and contractors, to being both the IT rep and JHSC member for her department, there is always something interesting happening. “Every day I feel proud to be part of a group where I can help and facilitate what we do,” Sunita exclaimed. “One of my proudest accomplishments to date was my recent work as a Workplace Transformation Program ambassador for our group. It gave me the opportunity to broaden my overall skills in managing change, information, records and the office.”
One thing Sunita wants everyone to know about Nepalese culture is the term, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which means the world is one family. According to Sunita, it places emphasis on unity in diversity, which made being part of this year’s Asian Heritage Month campaign even more special. “It’s truly meaningful to me,” she shared. “By sharing something about my rich culture and traditions, it helps promote understanding and respect.”

Mandeep Modgil – Stations Supervisor, Stations
For Station Supervisor Mandeep Modgil, safety is paramount.
In his role, Mandeep conducts regular inspections and audits to ensure the platforms and equipment are in good working order. He also ensures employees are properly trained and familiar with safety procedures.
One way he leads his work is through Safety Talks. These cover topics such as employee and customer safety during emergencies, dressing for inclement weather, proper radio protocol and how to report hazards.
“I took on this role because I believe that continuous education and awareness are key to preventing accidents and creating a safe working environment for everyone,” he said.
His advice to coworkers? Always stay alert and proactive. Report hazards immediately and avoid shortcuts.
“Safety is everyone’s responsibility. When we work together, we create a safer workplace for all.”

Mabel Perez Jimenez – Technical Instructor, Operations Training Centre
Mabel Perez Jimenez, Technical Instructor in the Operations Training Centre, makes safety a cornerstone of her work.
In her role, she trains employees in technical, operational, and safety procedures to ensure they can perform their jobs effectively and safely.
Mabel is especially involved with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) training —a critical safety procedure that prevents accidental equipment start-ups or energy release during maintenance or repair work. By teaching the LOTO procedure and ensuring its followed, she helps protect employees and build a culture where safety is understood, respected and applied.
Beyond training, Mabel leads by example: She ensures employees understand procedures before starting tasks, promotes open communication, and stays informed on policies and best practices.
