A message from TTC CEO Rick Leary

Line 4 turns 20
I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge that next week is the 20th anniversary of the opening of the TTC’s first fully accessible subway line – Line 4 Sheppard. Officially launched on November 22, 2002, the TTC’s subway system grew by 6.4 kilometres and was the first rapid transit line built in Toronto in 36 years. A ceremonial train carrying elected officials and dignitaries burst through a banner at Don Mills Station to mark the milestone. The official opening was followed by free rides for the public and the first day of revenue service followed two days later.
Project Red Ribbon holiday campaign
This Wednesday, at Wilson Garage, the TTC hosted an event with the Toronto Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). The TTC joined forces with MADD, Toronto Police Service, Toronto Fire Services, Ontario Provincial Police and family members of the victims to unveil a new series of bus ads stressing the dangers of impaired driving.
As part of MADD Canada’s Project Red Ribbon holiday campaign, the bus ads raise awareness of the risks of impaired driving, and encourage motorists to always drive sober.
Santa Clause Parade this weekend
On Sunday, November 20, the Santa Claus Parade and the Holly Jolly Fun Run will return to the streets of Toronto for the first time in two years. As we have in previous years, we are encouraging our customers to take transit to view the parade this Sunday. A number of subway stations are conveniently located close to the parade route and additional service will be running on Line 1 and 2 to accommodate those attending the festivities.
Stay safe,

Chris May
Transit Operator, Wheel-Trans
For the last 25 years, Chris May has been a head coach for many Special Olympic sports. This experience helped him when he joined the TTC as a Wheel-Trans Operator in 2008.
Chris is passionate about his job and always ready to put the customers first. In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in Toronto, Chris volunteered to drive COVID-19-positive customers or suspected COVID-19 cases to their destinations.
Chris knows how important the public transit system is to our city. “Over the years many customers have told me that if it wasn't for us, they wouldn't have the ability to get to medical appointments, movies, shopping trips or visit family and friends over the holidays,” he said.
Even on his days off, Chris enjoys going for scenic drives. His love for driving, his passion for customer service, and his experience with vulnerable populations have all led him to be a Divisional Trainer for Wheel-Trans.
Outside of work, Chris likes watching movies, trying new recipes and going on nature walks.

'We can never forget': Toronto marks Remembrance Day
CBC News, November 11, 2022

"The streets around Old City Hall filled Friday morning with people looking to pay their respects to those who've fought and served for Canada over a great many decades.
Exactly a century ago, Mayor John Tory told the crowd at the ceremony, Torontonians gathered at Old City Hall in front of what was then still a wooden cenotaph in remembrance of the First World War."

By Jack Landau, BlogTO, November 10, 2022

"The Humber Bay Shores area of South Etobicoke has witnessed an explosion in population over the last decade and a half, made possible through the addition of dozens of condo developments lining Lake Ontario.
But one thing that hasn't changed is the transit situation.
Humber Bay Shores will soon get a brand-new GO Transit station to ease the crush conditions in the area and offer residents and businesses a direct link to the city centre and destinations around the region."
