JANUARY SUPPORT GROUP MEETING

Our first support group meeting of the year will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2025. We will host an open forum format where topics of interest relating to your myeloma journey can be discussed.

The meeting will be held at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 11223 - 51 Avenue from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Our next support group meeting will be on Saturday, February 7th, 2026.

NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE

MASS New Year’s message

Dear Members:

On behalf of the Myeloma Alberta Support Society, We wish you a Happy New Year and hope you all had a great holiday season.

We have enjoyed another successful year for our society. We are looking forward to 2026 and we are excited for the opportunities to continue to succeed and work together.

As a board, we welcome new members and volunteers to assist with special events and/or vacant board positions. This spring, we will look to fill some of the board positions:

-          President

-          Vice President (available)

-          Secretary

-          Treasurer

-          Communication and newsletter

-          Immediate Past President

-          General member (available)

If you are able and interested, please let the nomination committee know by sending me an email message at info@multiplemyeloma.ca. Your participation and support will be invaluable in ensuring the continued success of MASS.

Some highlights this past year include:

-          Monthly Support Meetings

-          Summer Picnics

-          Multiple Miles for Myeloma Walk and Run raises funds for local Myeloma research

-          Casino – which raises funds for research 

-          Fall Wellness Fair with guest speakers

These initiatives would not be possible without our many dedicated volunteers, sponsors, event participants, supporters and guest speakers.

DECEMBER MEETING RECAP

At our December meeting the Society was pleased to donate $40,000 to the University of Alberta for Myeloma research coordinated by Dr. Chu.  This brings our total contribution in 2025 to $160,000.00. This is the product of our many donors, In Memorium Donations and proceeds associated with our annual Walk/Run in July.

DONATION ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Myeloma Alberta Support Society, wishes to acknowledge a significant securities donation from Rick and Chris Beliveau who have recently joined our Society and participated in this year’s very wet Run/Walk. They were so impressed by Dr. Chu’s research update at the wellness fair they decided to donate to support the local research projects.



The securities donations was suggested by their financial advisor because it avoids tax on capital gains while maximizing the donation and associated charitable tax credit. While our society does not have the capacity to handle this directly, it was easily handled through their broker via Canada Helps.

Myeloma Alberta Support Society will ensure that this donation combined with many others will be used to support our activities including meetings and particularly local research into the cure of Myeloma.
