Myron Tuman, a dear friend, has retired this past December after a
46-year teaching career.  As a student he attended Ben Franklin High School in New Orleans. After graduation he traveled to Philadelphia to earn his first degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He later received his PhD from Tulane. During his professional career, he taught at the McGee School, in the English Departments at the University of New Orleans, West Virginia, and the University of Alabama. In 2003 he moved back to Louisiana as the first endowed Chair in English at Nicholls State.
A lifelong innovator in computer-based instruction, he spent his last few years at Nicholls teaching online writing and literature courses.
 

This is my retirement present to him.

Myron has been married to his high school sweetheart Ginny for 48 years. They have two residences-- in the Lower Garden District and in Black Mountain just east of Asheville, NC.  He has a tennis crew up in the mountains and here in the Bayou State-- I am one of his New Orleans tennis buds.

The last two years Myron and Ginny have invited me to spend several days at their mountain-side home overlooking the town of Black Mountain. We play tennis, listen to local bands play mountain music at local craft breweries, eat LOTS of Carolina's delicious Barbecue, and hike the mountains.  He and I then drive over to attend a couple days at the Winston-Salem Open, an ATP World Tour 250 Event at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. (in 2016 was voted 250 Tournament of the Year by the ATP players.)
