Three fast facts we'll discuss
in this week's Workshops
1. There are many types and sources of carbs—and not all of them are created equal. When we think of carbs, we often think of foods that don’t offer much nutritional benefit like cakes and breads.
2. Many ZeroPointfoods, like beans, lentils, and fruits contain carbs
that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, like fiber. This
helps you feel fuller longer.
3. Carbohydrates are an essential macronutrient and are part of a
healthy pattern of eating.
How to Say Yes to Carbs
Repeat after us: Carbs are not the enemy on a weight-loss program. You need them to fuel your body!
Here are some PersonalPoints™-friendly inspirations for incorporating this essential macronutrient. Try adding one (or more!) to your routine this week.
Try this!
BREAKFAST
Oatmeal (rolled or steel cutwork!)
Whole-grain English muffin with eggs, avocado, or nut butter
Nonfat Greek yogurt with blueberries

LUNCH
Quinoa bowl
Salad with roasted chickpeas
A sandwich on a whole-wheat tortilla

SNACK
Banana and peanut butter
Hummus with veggies
Whole-grain crackers with cheese

DINNER
Whole-wheat pasta with chicken sausage
Stir-fry with brown rice
Salmon with roasted potatoes
Let’s dive a little deeper...

Fact:
Carbs are an essential part of a healthy pattern of eating.
Myth:
Carbs are bad and you shouldn't eat them.

Carbs can get a bit of a bad rap. (Thanks to Atkins or keto diets.) But let’s not forget one important thing: Carbs power our brains and body and give us the energy to do the things we love!

Sure, there are different types of carbs. We’re not saying that fettuccine Alfredo and Greek yogurt with blueberries pack the same nutritional punch, but they’re all on the menu with WW. They might even be on your personalized ZeroPoint™ foods list.

Bottom line? Carbs can absolutely support you on your journey. (Unless, of course, you’re allergic. Then, by all means, steer clear.) So shake off that hesitation and try adding different sources of carbs throughout your day. You may even find a new fave snack.

There has never been a better time to start living your best, healthiest life on PersonalPoints™, the first-ever weight loss program customized to the way you eat, move and live.
Get to Know Our PersonalPoints™ Program
With WW’s new PersonalPoints Program, members receive a personalized plan designed specifically for them by our nutrition experts—no two plans are the same! And “personalized” isn’t just a buzzword. Research has proven that individualized approaches lead to greater engagement and greater weight loss than a one-size-fits-all approach.

“After working in this field for over 30 years, I’ve seen countless ideas about how to make losing weight easier and more sustainable, but I have never seen something like this new program.” —Dr. Gary Foster, Ph.D., WW Chief Scientific Officer.

How the NEW PersonalPoints Program works:
  • Science simplified. We use the latest nutritional research to guide members toward a healthier pattern of eating, nudging them toward foods that are higher in healthy fats, fiber, and protein and lower in added sugars and saturated fats. An updated food algorithm distills calories and complex nutrient data down to one number—a food’s PersonalPoints value—to make eating healthier easier.
  • PersonalPoints tailored for real life. When members join WW, they answer a series of questions designed by our nutrition and behavior change experts to help us understand which foods they love most and reach for often. They’ll then receive a PersonalPoints Budget and ZeroPoint™ foods list (foods members don’t need to track) that’s customized to the foods they love.
  • For the first time ever, members can add Points! Behavior change science tells us that when we receive positive reinforcement for doing something, we’re more likely to repeat it. And repetition is what creates habits. To encourage good-for-you habits, WW’s PersonalPoints Program features a first for the weight-loss industry as a whole: Members’ Budgets now grow when they eat non-starchy veggies, drink water, and get active.
  • Support that goes beyond the scale. The program also helps members move more, shift to a healthier mindset, and sleep better. Our award-winning app is packed with helpful tools and resources, including 24/7 live Coaching sessions, on-demand meditations, and expert-led workouts, 5-minute Coaching audio lessons, strategies to improve sleep, and more.

This week's letter from Deb
Voice and General Manager of WW Philadelphia
May 4, 2022
Dear WW Philadelphia Member,

I hope all those April showers are bringing some beautiful May flowers to your lives.

The May topics at workshops are sure to bring some fun thoughts and ideas to all, this May is all about myth-busting.

I think my favorite, not really a myth but in the same line of thinking, is when we do things (diet-wise) because it worked for us before. Usually, these things did work but the reason we didn’t stick to them was because we were in a rut.

A hard lesson to learn is the one we learn when we say to ourselves, “no more dieting, I’m going to eat healthier forever.” That doesn’t mean a slice of chocolate layer cake never touches your lips again. It means you don’t stand over the sink and consume most of the layer cake and then cover the rest of it with dishwashing soap and put it in the garbage.

Even the crazy routines some of us put ourselves through on weigh-in day. What if every weigh-in day, you eat your normal meal, drink your normal fluid intake, and then weigh in? That’s your real weight, pretty good, isn’t it? Weight loss doesn’t happen on weigh-in day because you’re dehydrated and hungry, it happened because you followed YOUR plan most of the time in the last 7 days.

Another thing that might be perpetuated at a WW workshop is that mostly women are overweight. NOT true! The numbers are pretty equal, woman are a little more likely to do something about being overweight than men are. Men are a little more likely to wait until there’s a serious health scare to act on their excess weight. This is an area where you can help, invite your spouse, Dad, son, sibling, cousin, uncle, or work friend, to experience a workshop with you. Men do well on the program and doing it together can have benefits for both of you.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, and it is one of the biggest restaurant days of the year. Most families are probably trying to save Mom from the mess of the meal. In truth, many Moms would love a home-cooked meal made by the family together and then the ritual of the family clean-up. Eliminate the stress of waiting in line and not getting what you want and the noise of the restaurant, and play a game of cards together on the porch.

So, I end with Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms and the ones that stand in for Mom when she can’t be there, including the many Dads that do the Mom job every day!

Have a great week,
DebW
