Carbs are an essential part of a healthy pattern of eating.
Carbs are bad and you shouldn't eat them.

Carbs can get a bit of a bad rap. (Thanks to Atkins or keto diets.) But let’s not forget one important thing: Carbs power our brains and body and give us the energy to do the things we love!

Sure, there are different types of carbs. We’re not saying that fettuccine Alfredo and Greek yogurt with blueberries pack the same nutritional punch, but they’re all on the menu with WW. They might even be on your personalized ZeroPoint™ foods list.

Dear WW Philadelphia Member,
I hope all those April showers are bringing some beautiful May flowers to your lives.
The May topics at workshops are sure to bring some fun thoughts and ideas to all, this May is all about myth-busting.
I think my favorite, not really a myth but in the same line of thinking, is when we do things (diet-wise) because it worked for us before. Usually, these things did work but the reason we didn’t stick to them was because we were in a rut.
A hard lesson to learn is the one we learn when we say to ourselves, “no more dieting, I’m going to eat healthier forever.” That doesn’t mean a slice of chocolate layer cake never touches your lips again. It means you don’t stand over the sink and consume most of the layer cake and then cover the rest of it with dishwashing soap and put it in the garbage.
Even the crazy routines some of us put ourselves through on weigh-in day. What if every weigh-in day, you eat your normal meal, drink your normal fluid intake, and then weigh in? That’s your real weight, pretty good, isn’t it? Weight loss doesn’t happen on weigh-in day because you’re dehydrated and hungry, it happened because you followed YOUR plan most of the time in the last 7 days.
Another thing that might be perpetuated at a WW workshop is that mostly women are overweight. NOT true! The numbers are pretty equal, woman are a little more likely to do something about being overweight than men are. Men are a little more likely to wait until there’s a serious health scare to act on their excess weight. This is an area where you can help, invite your spouse, Dad, son, sibling, cousin, uncle, or work friend, to experience a workshop with you. Men do well on the program and doing it together can have benefits for both of you.
Mother’s Day is Sunday, and it is one of the biggest restaurant days of the year. Most families are probably trying to save Mom from the mess of the meal. In truth, many Moms would love a home-cooked meal made by the family together and then the ritual of the family clean-up. Eliminate the stress of waiting in line and not getting what you want and the noise of the restaurant, and play a game of cards together on the porch.
So, I end with Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms and the ones that stand in for Mom when she can’t be there, including the many Dads that do the Mom job every day!
