Hope-Mongering parent/caregiver support sessions

This month:

Mythbusting Blood Glucose Numbers

BG is a key datapoint in managing T1D, but there are a lot of myths and misunderstandings around what's behind the numbers.

We all want our child's graph to look like rolling hills rather than mountains and canyons, but sometimes that graph can become an obsession. So what happens when the landscape of your kiddo's graph gets rocky? And how much control can we really expect to have?

Join Camp Doc and OHSU pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Linsey Nicol ("Dr. Mocha" at camp) for a research-based conversation on blood sugar, fact and misinformation.

Dr. Nicol will talk about the real physiology behind hyperglycemia (high BG) and hypoglycemia (low BG). What are the long and short-term outcomes of an A1C that's higher than that social media influencer with an A1c of 5.9?

What about low BG? What's going on inside the body when BG drops below 60? What if it's below 60 for a few hours?

Are our notions of diabetes long-term complications outdated? Join us as we dive into the numbers.

About Hope-Mongering:

Each month we recruit an array of key voices to host a series of conversations: parents, young adults who grew up with T1D, health coaches, educators, dietitians, T1D doctors and nurses, and of course the GCC summer camp crew. It's a magic formula for conversation on raising a young person with T1D. We'd love for you to join us and add your voice, or just sit back and listen. Feel free to bring topics or questions.
