3Rs Newsletter
June 2020
Positive change, growth, progress, and enhancements!

There is all forward momentum here at NA3RsC. We are excited for the future and there is so much opportunity to be involved in our 3Rs initiatives. We have an incredible team that works together like a well-oiled machine. I am impressed and honored to be a part of this collaborative.

Megan compiled the results from the Refinement Survey and we are excited and motivated to work on the needs of our membership. We realize the need for resources and further education and we are collaborating with organizations to offer additional conferences and webinars in the current “virtual” platform.

Megan has also been hard at work updating and expanding our online presence. Be sure to follow our page on LinkedIn . The improvements to the NA3RsC site look amazing. We hope you are as excited as we are to keep the momentum going, and move forward together.

Best,

Lisa Stanislawczyk
NA3RsC President

Survey Results
You spoke and we listened. Thank you to everyone who participated in our 3Rs survey! We truly appreciate your time and effort. We look forward to inviting you to participate in our upcoming initiatives and sharing beneficial resources with you to help you and your animals.

Overall based on responses from 83 individuals most participants work with animals (74%) especially mice & rats and most people want training materials and handouts (>75%). We've identified sentinel programs as a potential new initiative as 41% of participants indicate that they still use full live animal programs. In terms of reduction & replacement, fewer people were sure what was in use, but microphysiological systems and digital biomarkers were near the top. We were pleased to see that 95% of participants report institutional commitment to the 3Rs and we are excited to support that commitment further.

More detail results can be seen below:

As you can see, there are many efforts to refine, reduce, and replace animal in laboratory research. Your donation to or participation with the North American 3Rs Collaborative will enable us to continue to expand 3Rs efforts in many more ways and work conjunction with others around the world who share these goals.

Thank you for supporting our 3Rs efforts!
