Dear NAA Members and Friends,
The winners of the 2021 U.S. National Youth Aviation Art Contest have been selected by the contest’s managing organization, the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO), in partnership with NAA. The annual contest is part of a larger international effort to inspire youth to illustrate the importance of aviation through art. Contest submissions are grouped into three age categories for judging, allowing students ranging from 6 to 17 years old to compete. The 2021 theme, “A Friendlier World with Air Sports”, encouraged students to create artwork that captures a friendlier world that comes from people meeting and sharing their love of sport aviation. To qualify for the U.S. national contest, all artwork was first submitted into state-level competitions, with the winning entries forwarded to NASAO and NAA for national award consideration. This year, over 120 pieces of art from 15 participating states were received. The national winners have been submitted into the international contest, which will be judged in June by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI). Congratulations to the 2021 U.S. national winners!

NAA air sport organizational member, the International Aerobatic Club (IAC), announced last month that it has established National Aerobatics Day as the fourth Saturday in June each year, highlighting the dedicated pilots who fly precision maneuvers as well as the ground support teams that make it possible. The skill, beauty, and excitement of aerobatic flying will be celebrated this year on June 26. “National Aerobatics Day is the perfect day to host an aerobatic camp, a BBQ, a practice session, or to share videos of aerobatic activity online,” said Jim Bourke, IAC President. “With over 40 chapters nationwide and two international chapters, IAC members will be organizing these types of activities and others to engage the public and general aviation pilots in aerobatics.” Additional information is available on the IAC website.
