Recently, the “Goon Squad,” six white former Mississippi police officers, plead guilty to committing egregious acts of racist-based violence against victims. The sadistic acts resulted in two Black men being brutally tortured, and one shot in the mouth. The NAACP calls for police reform and justice for their actions, but that is not enough. Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey cannot go unscathed.
These horrific acts happened under Sheriff Bailey’s leadership without any ramifications. The citizens of Rankin County are not safe and cannot rest until Bailey is no longer sheriff. County residents need the peace of electing a new sheriff to protect and serve them equally. The NAACP stands with the people of Rankin County, Mississippi, in fighting to ensure equal rights to safety and protection.
