September 2021

NAASF Community,

If you've been reading our Discussion Forum lately, you likely saw the thread named "This or That." It started as a discussion about the pros and cons of TurboChef vs. the MerryChef ovens, with Members chiming in on their experiences.

One Member added another option--one that hadn't been suggested: Amana. Here's an excerpt from the thread:

Subway® approved a "slim" speed oven from Amana in January. We have had two in operations since then and have ordered several more.

Pros:

  • Quiet, Quiet, Quiet. It produces a lot less noise than the TurboChef
  • Heats very well
  • Easy user interface to use
  • Skinny. Two of these units will fit in the same space as one TurboChef
  • Slightly less expensive

Cons

  • Reliability is still unknown. They have not been in service long enough to know how reliable they are or how costly to maintain they will be
  • Smaller cavity. Can heat two footlongs but it is tight.
  • I do not know if they have come out with "Melt" plates for this yet

One of my higher volume stores has a new TurboChef and an Amana. The majority of the time during lunch they use the Amana to heat subs. when I have asked why, all they could tell me is "they like it better."

Thank you to all participants who weighed in on the discussion! [Read the entire thread HERE]

Small Biz Window Opens Oct. 8

As was announced by the Small Business Administration (SBA) a couple of weeks ago, major changes to the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program (EIDL 2.0) have been implemented which present a short window of exclusivity for smaller businesses.

Beginning October 8, 2021, the SBA will focus its efforts exclusively on clearing the backlog of EIDL applications for loans in excess of $500,000 up to the new limit of $2 Million. EIDL 2.0 is a direct loan from the SBA with a low interest fixed rate (3.75%) over a 30-year term. Payments are deferred for the first 2 years (although interest will accrue during that 24-month period) and the program has no penalty for prepayment.

EIDL funds may be used as working capital to make regular payments for operating expenses including payroll, rent/mortgage, utilities and other ordinary business expenses as well as to pay business debt regardless of when it may have been incurred.

New Health Benefits & HR Solution

NAASF has been working to provide our Members with additional options for affordable healthcare. COVID-19 has made that need more apparent than ever.

We are excited to bring you the NAASF Health & HR Benefits Center. This program will provide you with access to high-quality, cost-effective, aggregated health solutions flexible enough to meet your specific needs. Know where your claims dollars are going with transparent, real-time access to current claims data and reporting.

We focused on making sure that you would have access to medical, dental and vision plans from national carriers, but we didn’t stop there. This program will also provide access to cloud-based HR services, comprehensive business insurance, and new features to respond to COVID-19 like affordable telemedicine and virtual doctor visits.
