Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act - TAKE ACTION HERE
On March 28, Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA-11) introduced legislation to help franchisees address the current labor shortage. While not a silver bullet, the bill fills a need currently unaddressed in the U.S. immigration system.
The Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act (H.R. 7239) (EWEA) creates a three-year H-2C visa program for nonimmigrant service workers. The program would fill nonagricultural jobs that have lower education thresholds and is intended for small businesses in industries with comparatively low sales per employee. The visas would be issued for three years and would be renewable for up to an additional six years. During the first year of the program, the number of H-2C visas would be capped at 65,000 workers. After the first year, the total number of annual visas could not exceed 85,000 or drop below 45,000 visas. For more information on EWEA, click here.
As franchisees recover from the pandemic, the need for workers is at an all-time high. Click here and ask your Representative to support the Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act!
