Volkswagen AG unit '
Electrify America' is planning to install 2,800 charging stations in 17 of the largest
U.S. cities by June 2019. The stations will be located at roughly 500 sites, with around 75% at workplaces and the rest at multifamily dwellings. Electrify America has selected charging station companies
EV Connect and
Greenlots to install them.
Proterra announcing that the
Los Angeles Department of Transportation will be receiving 25 35-foot
Catalyst electric buses (ebuses) in 2019. The procurement is being funded in part by the
Federal Transit Administration Low or No Emission Vehicle Deployment Grants.
UPS has placed a reservation for 125
Tesla Semi tractors. The order supports the company's efforts to reduce its absolute greenhouse gas emissions from global ground operations 12% by 2025. The company has provided Tesla real-world UPS trucking lane information as part of the company's evaluation of the vehicle's expected performance for the UPS duty cycle.

Toyota Motor is planning to market over 10 electric vehicle (EV) models globally in the early 2020s. The automaker would make an investment of over $13 billion to develop and make batteries. Toyota would introduce pure-battery models initially in
China, followed by
United States and
17 companies and research institutes have formed the '
Fab4Lib' consortium to start the research and development of large-scale battery cell production processes next month. Fab4Lib is comprised of
RWTH Aachen and
ZSW among others. The objective is to develop a production unit with an annual capacity of 6 gigawatt-hours that is modular so it can be set up as needed. TerraE Holding GmbH is the lead for the 18-month project that will first see a series of demonstrators.

China is planning to tell local governments to stop offering subsidies for EVs. The
Ministry of Finance is working on a plan that would mandate authorities to phase out the incentives to discourage protectionism and help rein in state expenditure. The plan may be implemented as early as next year. Automakers would still be entitled to the central government's funds.
Groupe Renault and
Brilliance China Automotive Holdings have confirmed signing a contract for the formation of a joint venture (JV) to manufacture and sell light commercial vehicles (LCV) under the
Huasong brands with the goal of achieving 150,000 sales annually by 2022 and an acceleration of electrifying powertrains. The JV will be known as '
Renault-Brilliance-Jinbei Automotive' with manufacturing operations in the
Dadong District of

Solid Power announced a partnership with
BMW Group in an effort to accelerate the development of solid-state batteries for EV applications. BMW will assist Solid Power to advance its technology in order to achieve performance levels required for high performance EVs.
