As was reported at our October NABOR Board Luncheon, your ARPAC/Legislative Committee, along with other volunteers, conducted three full days of local candidate interviews. These interviews followed invitations being mailed to 115 local political candidates vying for public office, inviting the candidates to complete a short questionnaire and to confirm an appointment time for a short 30-minute interview for possible financial contribution to their campaigns.
The questionnaire that was sent to the candidates asked questions about why they are running, what needed to be changed regarding the position they were running for, what background/experience made them qualified for that position, and their position on the importance of homeownership and private property rights. The panelists did an amazing job drilling down on these questions in a short 30-40 minute interview.
As you look over this list, you may find that your favorite candidate is possibly missing, and that’s to be expected. It would be a statistical impossibility that every NABOR member would agree with every name on this list. The other thing to keep in mind, is ARPAC does NOT endorse candidates. We simply vote on whether or not to financially fund a particular candidate. This process is not designed to tell membership how to vote. Each of you will make that personal decision when you step into the voting booth. Also, some candidates indicated they did not accept PAC funds and therefore their names do not appear on this list.
The purpose of this interview process is to have these conversations with the candidates to let them know our issues and our preferences. In short, to cause them to feel our presence in the community. So that in reality, whoever wins a given elected position, whether we contributed to their campaign or not, will know that we are watching their decisions and we will be here in the next election cycle looking to support those who supported our issues or we will be looking to help replace those who did not.
Once again, I want to thank the volunteer panelists and Board staff who worked tirelessly to make this happen. An event of this size and scope would not have been possible without their talent and dedication!
